I have a Nagra SNN that uses 1/8'' tape. In the past I have bought tape on cores and then loaded it onto the SN reels. Is it still available?

I would first suggest talking to the Nagra distributor for your country:-

Broadcast Workshop Pty. Ltd.
474-476 Victoria Street
P.O. Box 32
North Melbourne
Victoria 3051
Australia
tel: +61 3 9329 7655
fax: +61 3 9328 3866

Broadcast Workshop (http://broadcastworkshop.com/)

If that fails talk to Nagra (http://www.nagraaudio.com/index.php) themselves.

Alistair, the Oz federal police ran those for years, I'll bet there's cartons under the stairs they've forgotten about. Try Canberra.

Cheers.

don't nagras use 1/4" tape? 1/4" was the standard reel to reel width. 1/8" was the width of cassette tape...

i sure don't miss the days of dropping 40lb reels of 2inch on the multitrack...

Thanks John, Allan and Greg,

Greg I can assure you the the SN uses 1/8" tape. I can also say that dropping a full core of tape can make a mess that is very difficult to untangle. The reason for my current search is that an intruder to our property did just that.

John thanks for that, Broadcast workshop has the tape and so Allan I do not have to bother the AFP.

At a push you could also use audio cassette tape as it is the same size, you just need to find the best brand for bias and eq and carefully dismantle to cassette and wind it onto the SN reels.
