Dear Friends,

As many of you are aware, we stopping shipping of all nanoFlashes once we uncovered a problem with our firmware. This problem was uncovered by our internal testing program.

On Wednesday night, we found and fixed the problem. But we needed to be certain.

We started thorough testing to ensure that the problem was fixed.

We used five nanoFlashes, recording at 35 Mbps with two 32 GB cards in each nanoFlash. We recorded over 1,180 minutes of video, using the five nanoFlashes.

We examined each file to ensure that none were corrupted.

All of our testing has shown that our fix was successful.

So, we are resuming shipments of the nanoFlash today.

During this delay, we continued to build nanoFlashes.

At this time, I do not know how many nanoFlashes we will be able to ship today.

Also, we will be posting this firmware update for the nanoFlash on our website as soon as possible.

The nano arrived and I will be testing the unit this week-end. By then, others will have received theirs ... so, a flurry of posts and videos should start coming soon.

Dear Dean,

We welcome your comments.

Feel free of course to try out all of the video modes, frame rates, options, etc.

We feel that the sweet spot is our 100 Mbps Long-GOP as this gives recordings that are visually indistingishable from live uncompressed in a relatively compact file size.

Do the 140/160 long gop versions work with Sony Vegas 9?

We have started playing with the Nanoflash.

We took a file recorded on a XDR 100Mbs Long GOP at 1080 23.98p and it played back fine. You can skip forward or back as on the XDR.

Formatting cards is done through the menu, easily and quickly as with the XDR.

The menus include prebuffer and auto power save.

There is a restore defaults choice in the System menu, a welcome addition.

The backlight on the screen works well.

The on/off switch is recessed and it seems that turning off the unit inadvertently would be unlikely but it is still easy to intentionally hit.

Unfortunately the CF card eject buttons stick out a bit when a card is inserted, I'm a little nervous about that.

The audio has gain adjustments in and out. +12dB to -3dB on the in and the gain out has a tiny range basically 0 to 1dB (seemingly to be improved in the future).

There is a Preamp In adjust in which can be adjusted 0, 16 and 32 dB.

The CF indicator of amount used on the card seems to work.

It displays low-power mode after a bit, I guess saving power.

We will be testing it in the field tomorrow. More then.

Jeff
