View Full Version : Shooting a Commercial for Greenpeace in India on the 5d
Phil Bloom July 21st, 2009, 12:13 PM I am shooting a 90 Second spot for Greenpeace to be shown in the ad breaks on Nat Geo, CNN and Al Jaz. I have written a blog on my first day's shooting including a videoblog going through my entire kit bag!

Marcus Marchesseault July 23rd, 2009, 09:34 PM Thanks for going to the effort to document everything for the rest of us. As usual, I find your posts to be informative and a bit humbling.
You had a fairly broad assortment of lenses in your kit even though you were overall rather portable. What lenses did you find indispensable on this shoot?
Thanks for providing the model number of that monopod. A monopod with a stabilizer arm is my preferred method of shooting run-n-gun and it might be time for an upgrade. I sometimes shoot walking shots with the monopod as a stabilizer and I wouldn't want the feet to get in the way. How quickly do the feet retract?
Simon Denny July 24th, 2009, 07:54 AM Hey Philip,
How is the camera as a still's camera.
What lens do you find works best for stills.
Cheers

Richard Gooderick September 23rd, 2009, 04:09 AM I may be wrong but doesn't Vimeo convert HD files to 24p?

Richard Gooderick September 23rd, 2009, 10:38 AM Thanks. I didn't know that. That's very helpful. Will try staying with 30p on the next edit.
Gerdy Vandermeersch September 30th, 2009, 03:35 AM Wow, that's a nice clip. Cool editing too, the tracking titles are cool and the dof. Amazing, again.
I'm new on the forum and use the Canon Xha1 + Letus Extreme (thanks to you who talked good things about it in one of your movies on Mitcorp) and oldschool Canon FD-lenses now for my projects.
Currently I'm experimenting with the Canon 500D, but the full frame 5d Mark II is such an amazing camera if I see your results.
A fan
Gerdy
Dutch Rall September 30th, 2009, 09:14 AM Really beautiful work Mr. Bloom. Congratulations.
Last week, in no small part because of your work examples, I found myself holding a 5D shooting dancers in the blisteringly hot countryside outside of Mazatlan (on a tequila plantation) for a project for the Guggenheim Foundation. Had no time to test the set-up before departure.
It all worked amazingly and the raw footage makes everyone involved very happy.
So, thanks for your scouting and pioneering.
