I am just double checking my information.
I am shooting PAL on my EX3 tomorrow in the United States for a British production company. Will I experience banding if I have to shoot under fluorescent lights due to the CMOS chips?
Perhaps that is a poorly phrased question. What shutter speed would I need? I believe since we are in 60Hz land, I need to set shutter at 60Hz.

I am testing today in 1080/50i and 1080/25p.
With the flicker reducer on at 60//Hz.

In 1080/501, the shutter speed would set at 60-correct?

In 1080/25p, shutter setting should be either 1/33, 1/50 or 1/60?

I see no banding at 1080/25p - 60Hz with a fluorescent light.

Thoughts?

I am not sure this will help you as I faced the opposite problem.

You should set the shutter to be compatible with the electrical frequency of country you are shooting in. Pal in the US should be set to 60hz if you are getting flicker. If you are shooting NTSC in Europe then you want to set the shutter to 50 or some multiple. Not all sources cause flicker but you may not know it till you get it so I tend to set it up before the shoot so I would have to turn it off if I wanted to change the shutter on location

I was pretty sure 60Hz was correct-just having one of those Duh! days.

If you read my post that I linked you will see that it doesn't always work that way.

I did read the posts you linked to. Testing yesterday at 60Hz, 1080/25p and 50i showed no flicker or rolling shutter issues. I also had the flicker reduction feature turned ON.

Interesting how you found different settings working opposite of what you would expect.

Per analogy, shooting "NTSC-area" framerates / shutter speeds (e.g. 24p at 1/48th, or 60i at 1/30th or 1/60th) in a 50 Hz country, should require setting the flicker reduction ON at 50 Hz. Sounds logical, but as has been mentioned in the other thread, 60 Hz was used instead...

I guess I need to take a closer look at it, as the ability to shoot 24p (instead of 25p) here in Poland would be a very nice option for universal BD delivery.
