I just shot about 30 hours of vision on my new EX3. I'm really happy with all the footage, bar one clip.

I noticed the red banding whilst recording and sure enough it turns up when the focus hits the water.

The sun was setting at the time, could it be some sort of IR issue?

This was the only time this happened, so I'm not too stressed about this occurring regularly, just curious.

What the hell... Thats pretty strange... I've never seen that before...

It looks like Moire to me or flicker due to the shutter. What shutter speed did you use.

Could it possibly be a reflection of the sunset that only showed up where you were in focus?

The shutter speed was set at 1/50. It could be moire, with some sort of interaction with the orange of the setting sun.

Was the sun directly in front of you?
If so when out of focus the mix of reddish orange and the blue from blue sky at another part of the surface waves might have mixed to create the yellow. Then as you focused in the two color areas might have become distinct yielding the red/orange banding next to blue sky with every thin wave. That's my bet!

Thanks for your help. WoW! I think maybe the laws of physic,s could come into play here. Could the horizontal ripple effect of the water caused a refraction of the sun,s light wave lengths? Kind of like a prismatic effect?

You know like when you take a prism, then let sun light shine thru it, you break the sun,s light into its visible bands. Red,green and blue.

Did you have any sort of filtration on the cameras lens? Whatever it was,it looked very unusual.

I actually was hoping to see the Loch Ness monster or a UFO in the shot. LOL.

There was a UV filter on the lens, but nothing else.

A friend of mine mentioned that it might be some form of Chromatic Aberration, due to the fact that I was shooting almost wide open ~f2.4
