Hi everyone. I am very new to the wonderful world of videography but am hooked already!
I live in Christchurch, New Zealand and approx 6 months ago purchased a Panasonic HDC-HS9 3CCD video camera............wow!!!!!!!!! Camera is sooo small but the HD picture it produces is just superb. Have only done a couple of projects - 1 very amuteur video of a mates wedding where i just took the camera along to catch a few bits but when I got there I discovered they didn't have a professional person videoing the occassion so thought I'd do it. No tripod, leaned against a wall when i could, tried to hold camera up over my head to capture the good bits. Learned a lot of lessons............the biggest one being to get a tripod ASAP (bought a 2nd hand one off Trade me (NZ version of EBay) for $40. Spent another $20 on a replacment part and hey presto, a great tripod for a fraction of the cost of a new one.
2nd video effort was recording a friends 40th birthday which was an evening of amuteur variety acts. The low light was a bit of a challenge so need to work on that aspect.
Using Pinnacle Studio 12 Ultimate for editing. Pretting good editing but have had MAJOR issues burning to DVD. Have used these forums for a lot of research and assistance and ended up with IMGBurn which works really well for burning DVD's from the rendered files.
Anyhow, looking forward to learning lot's more and sharing experiences.
This is the best forum site I've come across on the web so congrats to the owner/moderator.

Sorry this is late but welcome to DV Info!

Christchurch....I'd forgotten until I saw your post that DV Info member Owen Dawe from Auckland helped me track down a very old friend of an elderly man who lives here. They'd lost contact and almost all we had to go on was a name.

Don't know how he did it but Owen came through and we got the fellows reconnected. So I have a soft spot for Christchurch and of course, for my dear pal Owen!

Welcome to the forum. One of my first upgrades when I started shooting video was a tripod and head.
I learned real quick a $70 tripod from BestBuy wasn't going to get me where I wanted to go.

Two weeks ago I was shooting the wedding of a cousins youngest son.
I had figured out in advance others would be taking pictures.
I would be the lone fool shooting video.
It came out very well.

I reviewed footage by setting up my laptop (17" screen) in the front foyer outside the reception hall - there was an AC power plug handy there.
Started playing footage back, got a fairly steady crowd, people would linger for quite a while.
The cousin noticed - he used to be a wedding photog among other things and was pleased.
The pro photog watched for a while and said very good. Especially for a first wedding shoot.
That surprised him, so I'm mostly happy.

This past evening I shot a concert at my church.
One of the attractions was one of the conductors is a member of our church.
The head of the ushers, he's ninety years old and had quite a musical career.

I had gotten home and was spot checking the footage when I saw your post.

I used to use Studio 11. I took advantage of Studios' ability to render directly to an ISO file, and then used Nero to actually burn and verify disk(s).
I didn't like that Studio had no built in verify of the burned disk.

Before Pinnacle built that ISO feature in, I would use Pinnacle to burn a DVD.
Then I would use Nero to pull the ISO file from the burned disk.
That verified the first disk AND gave me an ISO file I could subsequently burn using Nero.

Occasionally Nero wouldn't like the ISO file from Studio 11. So I reverted to previous practice, using Studio 11 to burn a DVD, then use Nero to pull the final ISO file from the DVD. It worked a treat. Whatever the problem was, it got fixed.

Not sure how I missed your first post on 3/7, must have been asleep (geez, chance would be a good thing).
