Has anybody found a decent way of cataloguing all their footage, I would like to utilize the THM files as they have a thumbnail of the clip. I need MAC software

There is currently no good way other than being methodical with a manual process. The new FCP plugin Canon D-SLR Log & Transfer Plugin for Final Cut Pro DV Info Net (http://www.dvinfo.net/article/acquisition/canon-eos/canon-d-slr-log-transfer-plugin-for-final-cut-pro.html) from Glue Tools looks like it will be exactly what we need. Unfortunately even though this plugin is ready to ship they are delaying it while they are trying to cut some deal with Canon. I emailed them directly & got this reply a couple of days ago Currently we do not have a set release date and are not taking pre-orders. Please continue checking our website for update.

I use Filemaker pro to catalog all my files, from all cameras. I do a few screen grabs as thumbnails and archive on HD's and Bluray discs.

It is really a good searchable system. I have used similar DB for up to 30,000 records.

I have worked with FMP for 15 years or so, I am pretty familiar with it. It is very easy to set up. I have a DB for clients that link to the actual video files, they love it.

Expression Media (formerly Iview) will catalog video files (as well as audio and still image files). You can drag a folder of images in and thumbnails will be built (IIRC it doesn't recognize thm files). You can also add keywords and other data that will help keep track of clips (with still images you can write metadata to the actual image files, but I don't know if that works with .mov and other video files).

Also I wonder if the desktop version of Picassa recognizes video files.

Jim, Thanks for the Microsoft tip. I have downloaded a trial version for MAC and it looks as though this may do the trick but I will need to explore the software a bit more
