I am in the market for a new HD camcorder and am looking hard at the HMC150 and HPX170. I was leaning towards the HMC150 due to being able to use SD cards until I read on another forum about poor quality results going to DVD. Anyone have any experience with the HMC150 vs. HPX170 output to DVD. Also, I plan to use Edius 5.

Under most circumstances, I be really surprised if you could perceive any difference between the same footage shot by either camera, after downsizing the footage to SD.

Thanks Robert,
Anyone else want to chime in on SD-DVD results from HMC150 and the workflow you used to downscale to SD?

Mark what did you find out? Is there a difference.....What work flow are you using? Thanks

Chaille,
Went with the HPX170 due to variable frame rates, mutiple format capability and no need to transcode footage as with HMC150 . I am editing with Edius 5 in a 1080i HD project setting, then dropping it into a SD timeline for export to DVD at 8mb CBR for video and AC3 audio. Looks great.
I have seen alot of good stuff shot with the HMC150 on the web but was unable to view anything burned to DVD. Input from a couple of HPX 170 shooters help me make up my mind. With the $500 rebate from Panasonic on the HPX170 it reduces the difference between the two cams to about $1,000.
