Is it a bad idea to use the Rode NT1A and its wind-screen for exterior dialogue via a boom?

Side address, large diaphram condensers are heavy and not usually used outdoors.

That said if it works then why not. The mic worked for me indoors on a fixed boom (boom stand)

It would have to be a VERY still day for that to work. Even with the windscreen. The other issue is that the large diaphragm hears EVERYTHING, not just your dialog. I use mine to get location sound that can be mixed in to ADR or dialog captured with a wireless/shotgun.

If somebody closes a car door 90 FEET away it sounds like the car was right in front of you. It's actually amazing what you'll hear with a large diaphragm outdoors... but since it's the absolute OPPOSITE of a shotgun mic every little thing will ruin your dialog.

Ahhh, I gotcha. That's what I was afraid of.
