I need your help more then ever! I filmed for two days and wanted to start editing the footage tonight because the deadline for the project is tomorrow all ready. But I couldn't login. I filled in the username and password and then this appeared:

Your with Filevault secured homemap coudln't be opened and has to be restored. Press ok to restore the map and go on with the login. Click on decline to login as a different user.

If I click ok it says:

You cannot login into the useraccount 'neeskens'. A error occured which makes the login into the account fail.

Who knows what is going on here? Or even better what can I do about it, because I am going crazy here! I just got the new 8 core, 2.66 ghz Mac pro for 1,5 weeks and brought my MacBook Pro to the MacStore to be repaired. Hope someone knows what to do?

You shouldn't be using Filevault on a system running FCP. Turn off Filevault in your system preferences - assuming you turned it on to begin with and this should clear the problem.

If you've *never* turned on FV then you may have software corruption on your main OS volume. If turning off FV doesn't clear your problem then you need DiskWarrior in hurry.

Even if it doesn't turn out to be some corruption on the disk & is just some mis-configuration on the part of the user this does highlight the essential need to have an adequate backup strategy in place.

If the OP had been using Time Machine he could have booted from the system DVD & then simply restored from the TM backup done at a time when there was no problem. A similar restore from a backup performed with Super Duper or Carbon Copy Cloner would have the system up again even quicker although these backups are rarely performed hourly as with TM.

It seems that if you update to the latest version of OSX and have Filevault on, there is a huge bug which makes your computer fail to open your home folder. You are not able to login anymore. People without a back-up are totally screwed and if you are fortunate enough to have a back-up you lose time but not hours of your life.So beware!!!
