I have a question about frequency range and the new restrictions coming up in June.

I live in Easton, Maryland and if I use the Frequency finder from Sennheiser I am getting the ranges of 480mHz or so. I maybe be doing work in NYC too soon and the free ranges there are in the low 500's.

What does that mean about which wireless mics system from Sennheiser I should get?

I am new to the wireless mic world so I want to make sure I buy the right product.

I am looking at getting the ew 100 series g2:

The Sennheiser G2 range has been superseded by the G3, which offers a diversity receiver amongst other improvements:

As for which frequency band, your best bet is a local dealer. TV broadcast frequencies are changing and a bit of inside information will help.

I would wait a few weeks after June12 to make any wireless purchase. Many stations will shift channels after the analogs go dark. In a few weeks we will have a better idea of what if any new space we will have to play in...

When you do get around to new gear, I would give the Sennheiser G3 a look. I have two of the 100 series G3 and am getting a little better range over the G2 (direct comparison of bodypack tx/cam mount rx). As with any wireless, finding an open channel to do business on is still key. I have a large investment in G2 gear, and will be moving into the 2000 series eventually due to its larger range of frequencies. As my gear works in many different cities, this is very important to me.

NY is one of the tougher areas of the country for wireless (but Miami, Tampa, LA and Phoenix are all worse IMO). I'll be at Bethpage for the USopen next week, I can give you a really good idea of what works there after its over.

I talked with Sennheiser today and they recommend I get the G3. No big surprise but I spoke to a technical guy not a sales person.

But the one for the camcorders will not be released until next month or early August.
