It seems like a busy day for new stuff.

QuickTime 7.6.2 for Mac (http://support.apple.com/downloads/QuickTime_7_6_2_for_Mac)

Claims improved support for ProRes422, not sure if it has any great benefit for 5dmkII files.

Anybody tried it yet?

Dan

Today is a grand day! Nothing like Christmas in June.

It plays all my quicktime files in stuttery slow motion.

Not a good update I think.

In fact the past few updates have been rubbish for my set up so I've just used Pacifist to roll back to 7.4 and now everything's nice and smooth again.

Is there another player that works for you besides QT?

Canon Zoombrowser EX works better than QT for 5D2 clip, that's IMHO

And the VLC player works better than both IMHO.

Wayne was complaining about QT on a Mac & that is a Windows proigram.

So you think QT only runs on Mac (Geez I wish)? Did OP said that on his post?

So you think QT only runs on Mac (Geez I wish)? Did OP said that on his post? No, but Wayne who complained about the problems he had is certainly using OS X as he refers to I've just used Pacifist to roll back to 7.4 Unless there is a version of Pacifist for Windows that I don't know about.

Maybe it's especially crap. An old G5 2G Dual. About 5 and a half years old now. I suspect the graphics card myself but I'm no expert.

And we're not just talking about the h.264 files from the 5D2, but other files as well. Some OK some not.

Wow. A G5 dual? I'm surprised it'll even play 5D Mark II files at all. I'm pretty sure all the optimizations being rolled into Mac software these days is 99% focused on the Intel chips. I don't think the video card in the G5 is going to make much difference, either.

When I got my Macbook Pro (when they first came out) I ran some simple benchmarks, and even at that time the MBP Core Duo outran my old (long since buried) G5 Dual by a factor of two. And as OS and app updates optimized further, the G5 was completely left in the dust.
