all the lowlight clips i've been watching have been incredible.. like I see very little if any grain... is this true? I mean everything has been so clean...even with the gain cranked up. I was about to buy the sony fx1000, but then I started running into clips of the hm100 and now I"m reconsidering.. anyone have experience with both cams?

just ok? hmm interesting.. do you have one? is it looking outstanding to me because all the footage I've been seeing is 720 and not full 1080 where grain will exposed?

Don´t get fooled by what you see on the web. It is impossible to judge footage by what you see on the web. The compression artifacts tend to hide grain pretty well. I used to have a XH-A1 and now I have a HM100 and they are about the same low light wise which is pretty good for such a small sensor. But if low light is super important for you the EX1 or the HMC150 is a better choice. I have no idea how the FX1000 compares to them though.

I don't think it's bad, but below EX1 for sure. I think about 15- 20% better then my old HD100 (I am not pixel peeper and I don't shoot much low light at all). If you have the cash buy EX1, if you can edit AVCHD you might consider HMC150.
BTW I only shot 720/30 and 720/60, so I can't comment on 1080 look. The camera records natively 720 anyway, so I would stick with this format. I don't think it will make any difference if your output is a DVD anyway.
