I wanted to buy the Canon 5D for HD underwater and outdoor shooting - the pictures are great - but now iīm not sure if the 500D does the same for less money. Does anyone has any experience with the new canon eos 500D?

It doesn't do the same but its so much cheaper that if you don't need as high of quality and you don't want to risk as expensive of a camera under water, then I would look into the T1i as it does shoot 720p at 30fps or 1080p at 20fps, which doesn't really help any professional in the video industry much.
That and the sensor size is not the same size as the 5d, which would effect the DOF (if thats the effect you want to go for) and would increase your focal length by a factor of 1.6x.
Some other things you might want to consider is that the T1i (also known as the 500d) shoots on SD cards not CF cards, so if you were looking for a CF card camera because you already have a stock pile of them, then the T1i is not for you.
Those are the main differences, that and if you have any interest in the still photography aspect of buying a dSLR, the 5D MK II also has more mega pixels.

Volker, we are in Europe, have the PAL standard which works at 25fps. Don't buy a Canon product that is not PAL and 25fps.
Both products you mention doesn't work for us.
