Hi everyone,

Can the footage from this camera go straight into Premiere?

I've searched through the forums but can't find any mention of the answer.

I ask because I know how hard it is to find a camera that records onto a HDD whose footage can go straight into an NLE like Premiere.

If it can't, what is the process for editing? Do they make it compatible with Vegas only?

John -
You might check the AVCHD camera section and the premier threads... but most NLEs are now supporting AVCHD, just takes a lot of computer horsepower to edit...

I didn't realise the Sony was an AVCHD camera. Bugger. I was tossing up between it and the Canon HFS10 which I knew to be AVCHD and wanted the Sony over it because I didn't think it was.

I'll settle for whichever camera edits natively in PPro CS4.

PPCS4 does edit AVCHD natively so either camera will be fine. Also the link in your signature to Mammoth Media is broken

Think I've decided on the Canon HV40 now anyway. HDV sounds easier to edit than AVCHD.

The Mammoth website is extinct unfortunately.

HDV does require less computer horsepower than AVCHD, so it's not a bad choice, although tapeless has it's advantages, really can't go too far wrong either way.

I have the 520v and I use PP CS4 with an i7 based PC. I love both. The 520v is a great camera. I would recommend the Sony. I also believe that tape-less is the only way to go!
