This photo just blows my mind... taken with the 5D Mk. II and a telescope, of Atlantis about to grapple the Hubble Space Telescope, in solar transit (that is, between the camera and the sun as seen from the camera's point of view). Absolutely incredible!

Talk about being in the right place at the right time... according to his notes (his data generated by http://www.calsky.com/), he had to shoot from a corridor on Earth (he was in Florida) that was only 5.6 kilometers wide, and the transit of Atlantis across the face of the sun was an event lasting only 8/10ths of a second. He used the "spray and pray" method, firing a burst that began two seconds before the event, and got lucky with one frame.
The photograph, plus the effort and planning he put into making it, just astounds me.

Space shuttle? Pfft. How about an actual astronaut (!) (http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap090410.html)
