Hi Tim Dashwood,
I understand that you visited P+S Technick over the NAB.
Do you think that a marriage between their 3D stereo rig and our JVC cameras is possible?
If not , have you succeed to put two JVC together in order to get a technically correct 3D image.
Please share your experience in this matter.
Thanks in advance
Eugen

Eugen,

Heres a link to Tim Dashwood's thread on his 3d hd100 rig.

http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/3d-stereoscopic-production-delivery/51074-hd100-3d-grab-your-red-blue-anaglyph-glasses.html

Its an old thread, but hope it helps.

Yes that thread is VERY VERY old (circa 2005) from when I built my first side-by-side rig for the HD100 cameras. I see there are a bunch of posts in there that I haven't answered. I've come a long way since then and I'm currently working on a beamsplitter design for the HM100 cameras.

If you visited the 3D area at JVC's booth or Cineform's Neo3D demo you may have seen some of my recent 3D footage. You can download it here. http://www.timdashwood.com/.Movies/Dashwood_NAB09_3D_SideBySide.zip
The closest interaxial distance I could physically get the HD100 cameras in parallel (after disassembling a 16x5.5 lens and the viewfinder) was around 120mm. That works fine for landscape shots, but is not ideal for dramatic production.

I didn't actually get to visit P+S while I was at NAB (because I'm already familiar with their rigs) but I did visit Element Technika, Cineform/SI, & Binocle (angeniux booth).
The HD cameras could be arranged to fit in most of these beamsplitter rigs but they would be huge. That's why you usually only see the CCD block (in the case of SI and Sony F950) and recording systems are tethered.

I'm working on a NAB09 3D wrap-up article now. I should have it published by the weekend.

BTW DV Info Net has a 3D Stereoscopic Production & Delivery (http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/3d-stereoscopic-production-delivery/) forum. I'm moving this thread there.

Just for fun, here is an interview with JVC at their S-3D space at NABSHOW 2009.

Tim, was your content at this booth?

Yes my material was shown on occasion on Tuesday and Wednesday on the 32" monitor (just left of the 46"). The primary loop was a disc from 3ality.

Tim, Ted, Neil,
Thank you very much for your answers.
I'll study the 3d forum and come with questions afterwards.
All the best,
Eugen
