I was recently handed an HVR-DR60 to pull files to edit. The guy was shooting HDV on a V1U with tape, as well as simultaneously to the DR60. The HDVF folder was empty. The DVF folder had widescreen DV AVI files.

A few googles were calling this "hybrid" mode where it was HDV on tape but SD on the drive. Not being familiar with this drive I downloaded the user guide but there's no mention of a "hybrid" mode or any instructions on how to NOT shoot in this mode. I'm sure this is probably an easy one but after searching this forum I still couldn't find how to record HDV on both the tape and drive. What config step(s) are needed to ensure HDV on both? TIA.

You simply configure the camera to downconvert. It is possible on the FX1 for example.

Just go into the menu of the hvr-dr60, select i-link and select either auto or hdv. Auto should recognize the hdv signal from the camera, if it doesn't then select hdv. So you have to make sure that your camera is not set up to downconvert the HDV to DV. I think the drive will not accept to record the wrong signal or downconvert even if set manually. Many people are shooting HDV and downconverting in camera to DV, because it is easier to capture and edit.

Thanks, Noa. I'll try forcing the HDV mode as it was previously set to Auto. I had the manual, but interestingly that menu item is called "Play Mode" (not iLink) in the manual and describes it as switching the playback mode (nothing about record).
