I have a buddy who is in a tight spot capturing some footage.
Anyone here know how to a person would take SD footage off a micromv tape and transfer it either to miniDV or have a camera a friend could borrow to capture this footage? My friend doesn't have access to a micromv camera.

Moved from Open DV to TLBL.
I'm pretty sure we have several existing threads covering this topic if you look around for them.

Well, that makes more sense to me. Sorry it was added to the wrong forum.

You'd have to have cables that get you video and audio out of the MicroMV camera to whatever input your record camera or deck would have. The guy with the camera should have the cables that came with it.

As an aside... MicroMV is evil. I once was in a situation where a client provided some footage on MicroMV but with no camera or access to camera. No rental houses had cameras or decks. No stores sold them. Ended up paying entirely too much off for a used one off ebay just to acquire the footage from it.

Yeah, the problem is my friend doesn't have access to the camera and neither does the client. What a mess. Looks like his only option is to buy one off eBay. Thanks for the input.

Make sure he gets the cables too, or check the specs in advance to make sure it doesn't use some kind of funky cable you'd have to build from scratch if you don't have one. I only looked at a couple of those cameras a long time ago...I seem to recall that one had firewire and one didn't, but I could be wrong there. If you can find one with firewire, then that would make your life a lot easier.

But don't forget that the firewire stream might be MPEG-2 and not DV. Capture, convert, then print to DV.
