My G4 wont recognise blank DVD-R's and just spits them out after trying to read them for about a minute. It even happens with the Apple DVD-R's they supplied when I bought it. Can anyone offer any solutions as I dont wanna have to put it in to Apple again because of the downtime, my superdrive's already packed it in once before.
Any help is appreciated!

Thanks, Tim

Tim,

What authoring software are you using?

does it work in any other DVD recorder?

Are there any scratches/ marks on the disk?

Thanks,

Ed

I cant even get as far as my authoring program with the disc. I put the blank unscratched brand new out of the pack DVD-R into the drive, wait for about a minute and then it gets spat back out saying the disc is unreadable. It handles CD-R's and Audio CD's fine and also finalised DVDs play. It just struggles with blank DVD-R's and i dont know why....?

Hi Tim,

A part from the drive being dead I have no other suggestions. Have you tried the blank DVD in another DVD burner?

I believe Apples use the pioneer burners for DVD authoring, they tend to be pretty good at detecting DVDr's. Are you sure you have a DVD burner in your G4?

All the best,

Ed

This is a "worth a try" suggestion, not a solution from experience, but if you haven't used a brush-type DVD cleaner in your drive it might help. It is a disk with some brush bristles strategically located to dust off the laser. A useful thing to have for your DVD deck(s) as well.
