Guest June 8th, 2005, 06:26 AM Hello,
I'm trying to decide on which camcorder to buy and I'd like to mess around with some footage using Final Cut Pro 5 on my Mac (DP 2.7 w/6.5 gig RAM). Is anyone interested in selling about 30 minutes or so of footage they've taken with a Sony Z1? Same question applies for a Canon XL2?
I will not be using the footage in any other way, shape or form other than just editing it on my own personal computer and doing some experiments with Final Cut Pro 5 and the lastest version of Sorenson Squeeze. Most of the things I do with video will be exported to the web and I'm just trying to make the best decision on which video camera will best fit my needs.
The footage does not need to be groundbreaking or anything like that, but it does need to be something interesting. Please contact me via email. I'll be happy to provide my cell number on request, I just don't want to post it here due to the time differences of all the members.
I will be more than fair on figuring out a good price that you and I will be happy with.
email: derek1147@mac.com
Thanks.
One last thing: Since the Sony Z1 uses mini DV to record HDV, will I be able to put a Sony Z1 tape with footage into my Canon GL2, connect to my mac via FireWire, and capture it? If not, I will need a way to capture it, and would be open to suggestions.
Chuck Grieves June 8th, 2005, 07:34 AM Purchased 8 months ago, still under warranty. Have all paperwork, receipts, factory boxes, books.
The system hardware includes:
G5 (dual 2.5mhz, 4.5gb ram, 160mb internal, Lacie D2 Extreme 500gb external, nVideo 6800 Ultra), two(2) 23" Cinema HD monitors, Apple iSight camera, Edirol PCR-30 Midi Keyboard, Altec Lansing speaker system.
The system software includes:
OS X 10.39, Final Cut Pro HD Production Suite, iLife 2005, Logic Express 7, and other editing software.
The camera is a Canon Xl2, NTSC (USA) purchased from BHphotovideo.com at the same time that I purchased the system from Apple. Came with a 20xx and I also purchased the 3xx Wide as well. All manuals, factory boxes, cables, etc. The camera has around 2 hours of usage and is in perfect condition.
I don't mind selling the equipment, but what I would really like is to trade straight-across for an RV if possible. Would like to see it all go at the same time but I understand that may not be what you need. Paid over $16,000 cash for the complete system, so with 8 months usage, make me a deal.
Thanks,
Chuck
Torrey C. Harris June 8th, 2005, 12:11 PM he lives in Pa Iwas just there about 1 month ago, and he told me he was thinking about selling it but would rather trade someone for video eqipment so he wouldn't have to pay taxes on the sell of it. Is that not weird.

Matthew Wilson June 8th, 2005, 03:36 PM Camera is sold. Other items still available
Tomas Chinchilla June 8th, 2005, 05:30 PM I have an almost brand new GL2 which is 3 or 4 months old. I am selling this camera like new, no scratches or anything, only used it around the house and once or twice in the office nothing fancy. I am very anal about my things so you can imagine how careful I was with it. I bought it in march and have not had any issues with it, I guess is just too much camera for me and went overboard with the accessories. It is in pristine condition never been dropped or mishandled. Please e-mail me if you have any questions.
Also, it comes with an extended warranty I bought from MACK (2 Years) which starts I think from the moment my normal warranty expires which it would be march 06
I spent about $2500 including everything (Cam/Warra/access).
Alright guys, first takes it (Today Only) $1850 with the warranty transferred to you. Yes it is transferrable. (Or Better Offer)
What's included:
GL2 in its original box with everything that comes normally (All Accessories, All orig cables/ wireless remote/Instruction Manual)
2 extra 6000 MAH Battery (long lasting, TRUST ME)
UV lense & Circular polarizer (Not the cheap ones)
Email me and let me know tomas@tscga.com (404.451.6550)
Brian Kennedy June 8th, 2005, 07:16 PM Just wondering, Derek - based on the footage, what did you decide?
Guest June 8th, 2005, 08:33 PM I didn't get any footage, other than postings with links that had footage and screen captures that I saw in this forum.
Based on my needs and my happiness with my current GL-2, the durability and the "it just always works factor" with my GL-2, many hours reading countless posts on this forum... and input from forum users -
I'm going to go with the Canon XL2. Other factors that were important to me were:
-The ease of Manual Focus and Manual Modes.
-Being able to change lenses (for some of the different looks I want)
-I'll be exporting 95% of the footage to the web (with DV, I'll start with 100% non-compressed data, which should have better results in Sorenson Squeeze when compressing for the web.
-true 24p
-Canon brand loyalty
-From seeing the re-sale and turn rate on camcorders, knowing that down the road when Canon comes out with an HDV / HD camcorder that I may want, I can always sell the XL2 and have some cash to put towards the newer purchase.
-My need for a camcorder within the next few weeks.
-Seeing edited footage from the XL2 within this forum.
-The DOF capabilities I've seen with the XL2.
-Accessories currently available for DV camcorders.
-Being able to use the FireStore direct-to-disk (and getting a rebate on it) with the XL2
****IMPORTANT**** I think the Sony Z1 would be a great choice as well AND I'll aways be jealous of anyone who has one, BUT FOR MY NEEDS within the next 6 months to a year, the XL2 will be the best for me.
That's my opinion.... today.... right now.... :)

Chuck Grieves June 11th, 2005, 08:34 PM I have decided to keep the system for now and to complete a project I began last November. Basically it was the reason why I purchased the gear in the first place. Torrey, I want to personally say Thanks for helping me decide to stick with my initial plan. I would have hated to not finish the project and now at least I have someone else saying it's a good thing. Thanks again. I appreciate the honesty and the offer to help.
Sincerely,
Chuck

Chris Marty June 12th, 2005, 02:58 PM I know this is extremely elementary, and I apologize - but I can't find any quick information anywhere to tell me how to attach the P+S mini 35 adapter to a Canon XL2 to simultaneously run the adapter when the REC button is pressed.
The info with the adapter says that I can do it, just don't know how... Any help?
Thank you.

Tommy Haupfear June 12th, 2005, 09:04 PM I'm parting with my like new FX1 and here is your chance to save hundreds of dollars. I've only used one tape and the only things opened are the cam, battery, and charger. Everything else is still factory sealed and the manual hasn't even been flipped thru. I bought this cam but have not had any time to use it (see also 1 yr. old twin boys and 3 yr. old daughter). So other than letting it set around and collect dust (see also depreciate) I'm offering it up to you guys.
$2799 and I'll pay for overnight UPS shipping with insurance (48 states only). If you live elsewhere email me and we can work out something.
Here are a couple of photos.

Patrick Moreau June 13th, 2005, 07:40 AM Never used as a main camera. No audio hiss and very little zoom noise compared to other vx2000's I have used. About 16 months old, never rented out and has only imported maybe 10 minutes of footage. Always stored well and used well. Excellent cosmetic condition. I have the charger, standard battery, and a couple other original parts for it. I am also checking to see if I have an extra 8 hour generic battery I can include.
I'm looking for $2000CDN which is about 1610US.
I also have a beachtech adapter, the DXA4, in excellent condition for an extra $70US or $100CDN.
905.935.7713 or via email through the board. I can send high rez pictures upon request.
