Charles,

What is the weight limit on those? Will it handle the Xl2 and the newer bigger stuff?

I tried to look it up on the steadicam site, but it isn't coming up right now...

I don't think it would handle the XL2 at all.

I can get my FX1 balanced on a JR, but that's it. It's to heavy to do any work with it.

My GL2 seemed to be at the top of the limit.

Charles Papert
April 15th, 2005, 02:31 AM
Probably sold folks, pending wrapping up the deal.

XL2 is too heavy for the JR. You wouldn't want to fly any handheld stabilizer with a camera of that weight.

I know Torrey and feel you will have no problem solving this once he gets near a computer or home from a shoot. Torrey is good people. I just got home from an over two week long shoot in Africa with no phones, no pc's or any other way to check in with home or business. When you shoot hunting video sometimes you are "in the sticks", so to say. I'll be putting out fires for the next several days and I'm sure he's in the same boat.

Patrick Moreau

Fair enough, I have no problem waiting but what is a reasonable amount of time before I should do something?

On two seperate occasions over three weeks ago he said he was sending me the warranty papers "in the mail tomorrow", and that hasn't been done and he hasn't even gotten back to me. Granted, he may have left for three weeks but I'm stuck with something that doesn't work, less than what he promised, and I can only wiat so long. If anybody has any idea when he might return, it would be greatly appreciated.

After shooting approx 10-12hrs of footage with my new Sony PD170 in Africa this month I've come to the conclusion I bought the wrong camera for my needs. It's a great camera, kicks butt in low light (which was the main reason I choose it over the XL1s or XL2) and the video is super quality. I bought an Anton Bauer STASIS support in an effort to improve the run and gun shoulder shooting I do but the bottom line is the video I shot with the shoulder mounted Canon also on hand for this assignment is what I'm looking for. So, the Sony is for sale or trade. This camera is in excellent condition and has only been used for a couple of weeks. I can post some pictures and the usage meter data once I retrieve it from the editing studio in Dallas on Monday. It has never been used as a deck, by the way.

The package, most of which was purchased from DVinfo.net sponsor B&H Photo, includes:

Sony PD170 w/additional Sony Wide Angle Lens and all included goodies that Sony ships.

Sony 1.7x High Grade Telephoto Lens
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=WishList.jsp&A=details&Q=&sku=200953&is=REG

Rycote Mini Windjammer for the mic.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=WishList.jsp&A=details&Q=&sku=259872&is=REG

(2) Sony NP-F770 Info-Lithium batteries
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=348070&is=REG

Pelican 1600 case fitted for the camera, the 2 extra lens, ten tapes, batteries, chargers.
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=WishList.jsp&A=details&Q=&sku=40671&is=REG

Anton Bauer STASIS shoulder support
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=productlist&A=details&Q=&sku=283270&is=REG

(2) 58mm UV filters, one new in the box, one on camera

I figure I have over $4300 in this setup and will let the whole package go for $3750. I'm looking for a Canon XL1s or XL2 in like condition if you would like to talk about a trade.

I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have by email at editor@texasoutdoorsman.com or shoot me your phone number and we can speak over the phone.

I'll split up the package if needed but the package price is firm. No low ball offers, please. Thank you.

I have the following

GL2 purchased new in April 2004. I purchased a two year extended warranty, so it's still has almost 2 years of warranty left.

It comes with all of the factory accessories plus 3 bp-945 batteries. It has approximately 20 hours on it. I have only used Sony Premium tapes and it was rarely used to play back the tape. Once or twice while on location we replayed the footage to check lighting.

It comes with the original box. $1650 It's in perfect condition.

I also have the following accessories

Canons WD-58 Wide angle lens($100)
A pelican case with pick and pluck foam already plucked for the GL2($50)
Canons vl-10li light($50)
Beachtek XLR adapter ($125)
ATR55 Shotgun Mic - ($50)

Email me if your interested. jon@trulux.com

Cory - Thanks for the heads-up; I hadn't realized the GS250 had OIS. I will likely go with the 250 anyway since there doesn't seem to be many 200's around.

Yeah the GS250 looks like one hell of a camera. The one im getting from ebay is 770.00 Buy-It-Now. Im just shooting personal interest stories for a tv station, public access and it will work really great with a good on-camera like and mic, and a lens hood. I would never justify buying a PD170 or DVX100A when in reality, in good lighting, there isnt much difference for NORMAL usages.

Nice to hear about your intended usage - same for me! Portland has a fairly active Public Access community.

There are PD170s and 250s available for loan, but they are often booked and having to pick up the camera + gear and return the next day adds extra hours to any production.

Anyway, I've also got a 2 year old and having a small cam will be nice.

April 21st, 2005, 07:06 AM
I have a 16mm projector if anyone is interested. I'll have to search the attic for a super 8.

BTW- there are many facilities that will do a telecine from super 8 movies and I don't believe it's that expensive. They make transfers for all the people out there with super 8 home movies.

Richard Alvarez
April 21st, 2005, 07:51 AM
Jared, do a search for "telecine" and "Poor man's telecine" for information on how to go about it. http://www.moviestuff.tv does great work, located in houston. They also sell their custom modified projectors and transfer software. High priced for a one-off, but if you are looking at it as a business or doing lots of shooting yourself, it's about the best way to go.
