View Full Version : Check out this movie I made
Jonathan Pike March 4th, 2004, 08:31 PM If you're bored and looking for something to watch, check this out!
My buddy and I recently made a film using our XL1s, Premiere 6.5, After Effects 5.5, and a tiny tiny bit of Lightwave.
Most of the stuff you'll see here, however, is practical fx - we built and shot all sets, props, and miniatures from scratch using spare parts and junk we found in the trash.
Here are some screens:

Anyway, the movie's called "The Siberian Farce", and it's about a crazed merc for hire who has to save the world from a Soviet missle. Enjoy!

Nicholi Brossia March 4th, 2004, 10:40 PM That movie rocks, plain and simple. I'm a big fan of anything with ninja, and that movie has all kinds of ninja :).
On a more technical note, it was great. You did a great job building suspense/intrigue before revealing what was going on. Also, excellent job on the props, sets, and effects... (was that a t-shirt ninja inspired facemask http://www.houseofninja.com/lessons.php?)
"The Siberian Farce" is definately going into my "good movies" folder. Great job. Very funny.
John Hudson March 5th, 2004, 12:53 AM Great work! I love it. Very creative and guerilla style. Man I am a sucker for anything like this. Also watched Operation Theta and that too was very cool!
I have bookmarked your webpage and look forward to more work from sundevil.
The props, CG and sound kick arse. Too bad you couldnt use a DVX.
Gino Terribilini March 5th, 2004, 01:28 AM ha, that was awesome. I loved the little twist at the end. It was shot very well and had a great story. Again, great job... keep it up! i look forward to seeing more from you.
Rob Lohman March 5th, 2004, 06:41 AM It's looking great.
Kyle Kauss March 5th, 2004, 10:08 AM It's shot pretty well dude I liked it keep making them
Marty Martin March 5th, 2004, 12:05 PM Personally, I felt it to be overall humorous ,and obviously some good effort went into it. But I felt like after a minute, the film just drug on and on. But the end redeemed itself and I couldn't help but chuckle. The end is what definitely made it for me.
As for people saying it reminded them of Outpost Theta... I personally did not like Outpost Theta AT ALL... This one, though a bit sluggish at times, was worth the watch.
Jonathan Pike March 5th, 2004, 02:10 PM Thanks everyone for watching, we very much appreciate it!
Kevin Lee March 5th, 2004, 08:32 PM tastefully done.
One suggestion though...
The end. I think you can afford to drop the home videocam "recording" text and white frame. It's obvious and should work without it.
Alex Taylor March 6th, 2004, 12:39 PM Haha, nice twist at the end! Beautiful XL1 stuff too.
Jonathan Pike March 6th, 2004, 03:56 PM I'm currently out of bandwith, so if you want to watch you can either try one of the mirrors here:

or watch a lower qual version on Ifilm here:

John Gaspain March 7th, 2004, 01:42 AM OMFG! that was hilarious!
Graham Bernard March 7th, 2004, 02:53 AM Tooo Bl@@DY G@@D! !! ! I loved the Soviet "hitting" the side of the monitor to make it work . . AHAHAH LOL!! . . Very funny .. and the sound that came out of the speaker as he hit it . . GREAT! . . A lot of detail .. . intelligently thought out . .excellent . . FAB twist at the end! .. Sequel? ? ? ?
Grazie
Seth Peterson March 7th, 2004, 02:19 PM Thanks again everyone for watching. If you like it, pass it on to a friend. My partner and I really appreciate it.
Neboysha Nenadich March 8th, 2004, 06:12 AM I loved the film, keep on rockin'... :) only critic from me is that the overall rhythm of the movie is a little bit slow (for my taste)...
cheers
;)
Clint Grant July 12th, 2005, 02:32 PM GREAT WORK! I love the ninja's eye expression. Awsome twist at the end, too! Way to wrap things up!

Eniola Akintoye August 5th, 2005, 01:31 PM Ok,

Can you do something about that?
Christopher C. Murphy August 5th, 2005, 01:51 PM Hey, cool movie!
Kevin Red September 10th, 2005, 03:17 PM Im not the type to go around complimenting every short I see online...
but this one was amazingly awesome.
very fun to watch, great direction, editing, and cinematography, good ending too.
My only gripe: The laptop parts are displayed in 4:3! It's a 16x9 movie! common!
otherwise, awesome.
