Howdy from Texas,

As our member's interest in tapeless recording solutions grows, we've added a new category for those discussions here at DV Info Net. Within this primary forum you'll find open discussion related to hard disk recording in general.

For discussions relating specifically to the FireStore FS1, FS2 and FS3, we have a dedicated area for these (http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=65) and other products from Focus Enhancements.

For discussions relating to the QuickStream DV, we have a dedicated area for this as well (http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=66) plus other products from MCE Technologies.

Manufacturer's reps from both companies will each lead their individual forum. If you're not sure where to post, then simply ask your question here in the main Tapeless Recording Solutions category. We'll move it if it needs to go somewhere else and leave a re-direct behind to show you where it went.

Hope this helps,

Daniel Kohl

Good move, Chris. Probably, not far down the road, we'll need a separate forum breakout for those still using videotape! :-)

Anyone have a direct to disk solution for either the Sony or the JVC in HDV output mode?

The closest I seem to be able to get right now is to use the windows utility that comes with the JVC GR-HD1 for downloading tapes to my computer and just use a notebook with an external drive. The downside is that the utility program isn't controlled by the camera end controls (pause/record) so I have to do a lot of cut editing on the recorded files.

FireStore with support for HDV would probably be ideal.

if somebody wants to ask sony, the DSR-DU1 has an hardisk that contains several folders and one of them is named mpeg, while the device is not supposed to handle anything else than DV.
Is the device more versatile than advertised ?

During capture from my GL2, using PinnacleStudio9, I switched from 'Play VCR' to 'Camera' and pressed 'Start' button. Lo and behold, I was capturing direct to my laptop disk with a copy on tape.

I plan to use this trick to optimize blue screen lighting, etc.

I would never have tried this without reading this great
forum.
