Very interesting. The most interesting excerpt from the press release:The HDC-X300 is switchable between a range of 1080 linear shooting modes, including 59.94i, 30p and 24p. With a minimum illumination of 0.003 lux with slow shutter, the camera features exchangeable lenses and slow shutter functionality (one to eight frames). Weighing less than three pounds with no lens, the camera also consumes less than 20 watts of power.Thanks for passing this along.

Only thing is, it's not a field camera.

Could this camera be used as studio cameras? My boss is looking to upgrade our news studio cameras, and I might should pass this info along.

It sure looks like it's designed to be a studio cam. Send your boss to NAB.

the shape of the 'box' makes it look like a surveilance camera. No audio from what it looks like.

It does look like a surveilance camera, but why would they offer 24p?

Basically, what you've got here is a box with a lens on it. Notice, no viewfinder. Also, there is no built in tape recorder. It simply outputs a signal that is meant for an external tape deck, or a switcher.

"The new camera's flexibility enables it to be mounted on a crane or in a helicopter, used as a studio sub-camera or weather camera, or installed in nearly any location within a venue such as stadiums, conference room, houses of worship, or schools."

So you can use this as a "locked-off" camera, shooting a weather map, or mounted on a jib, or on a "hot head". This would have applications in hospital operating rooms, again using a remote control device.

While this camera has about zero value to most people on this forum, it is interesting that Sony is producing a half inch hi def camera. It may be that a full fledged EFP version is not far in the future.

OTOH, they may not want to jeopordize their high end line with a lower cost alternative, so don't hold your breath.
