I'd like everyone's opinion on a tripod I'm thinking of getting. Its at this URL:

I've been able to get a student discount and it should run me about almost $100 less than what B&H sells it for plus shipping. I'm also looking at getting the 523 LANC controller for $273. Is this a good deal? I'll be using this setup with my PD170.

I'd say it depends on how long you are planning on using it. It is a Boegn, so it will probably last, hmm... maybe 3 or 4 lifetimes, so the price is right. Keep in mind, you get what you pay for. I say go for it just as long as you are planning on using it and loving it unconditionally 'til death do you part.

I don't want to hijack your thread... but how do you get a student discount on bogen tripods? I'm a high school student and in the market for a bogen tripod... and havent been able to find any educational pricing.

Does this apply to college students only, or are high school students qualified also?

From what I understand this discount normally applies to college level students and educators. You can call or email Bogen directly and see if they will give the discount to you as well.

This is a good setup and the Bogen student discount is handy. I believe the discount is for film and photography students.
