OK, I googled it.

Can't be done without spending money on a little converter. Cheaper to buy a dedicated monitor. As I happens I've just been at a cafe where I noticed that the surveillance camera monitor (70% of the CCTV systems in the world are in the UK!) was a cheap PC monitor. Looking 'round the back (which was probably a suspicious thing to do) I could see a little conversion box taped up there...

Sorry for not noticing your question earlier.

As you found out, it is not able to be done directly. One good reason for this is that HDMI cable (used for HDTV) signals are digital, whereas the signals along a VGA connection cable are analogue.

Ah, a chap from the colonies!

I think we're at cross purposes. The output on the device in question (I'll own up - it's an X-Box) has a set of HD-Component outputs (Red, Green, and Blue) which will link to most HDTVs. It's a shame you can't use the same connections somehow for a PC - though the monitor sizes you could have done it with would no doubt be limited. It would have been very handy!

Ahh. Yes, well it was a good thought that you had in mind. Straight to the dedicated HDMI connected monitor if you wish.

In the meantime, we'll continue to show the Mother Country how cricket *should* be played. :-)
