View Full Version : Text distortion
Jeff Harper April 20th, 2009, 06:40 AM Two questions:
Below is a link to an image that shows how messed up my text looks in Vegas on a black background. Usually if I change fonts it works out fine, but not this time. this was rendered to .avi widescreen, and frame size of text is 1440x960.
Here's photo:

Question #2:
How do you embed/put a photo in a post? I've seen others do it, but I'm flummoxed.
Terry Esslinger April 20th, 2009, 03:08 PM Is this text zoomed in or did you use a large size font?
Try addding a small black outline to the text.
Jeff Harper April 20th, 2009, 03:12 PM That is not zoomed in, that is the actual size. I did darken the white to a light grey, and that helped. I'll try your suggestions also.
Thanks Terry.
Edward Troxel April 20th, 2009, 05:35 PM Also, change the text display to double resolution.
Jeff Harper April 20th, 2009, 07:09 PM Actually what you see is double the resolution, I have also tried it tripled, it's the same.
Matthew Amirkhani April 20th, 2009, 07:39 PM Hi Jeff,
I had the same exact problem, changed the properties to HDV 720-30P problem was solved.
Mike Kujbida April 20th, 2009, 07:47 PM Jeff, you said you changed the text to a light grey and that helped.
I make it a rule to never exceed 235-235-235 for white text (and 16-16-16 for black) and don't recall ever having this problem.
These values ensure that text says within the 16-235 luminance range.
Jeff Harper April 21st, 2009, 07:06 AM Well Mike, it would appear that you have validated my experience. Thanks.
Mike Kujbida April 21st, 2009, 07:47 AM You're welcome Jeff.
I can't remember where I read those values but it's something I stick to and, as I said, have never had problems by doing so.
BTW, I've found Great Titles with the DV Codec (http://library.creativecow.net/articles/hodgetts_philip/titles.php) to be an excellent article on the subject.
Jeff Harper April 21st, 2009, 07:51 AM Those values seem perfect. Titles are still white but no issues now. Thanks for the link!
Ian Stark April 22nd, 2009, 02:02 AM Excellent article, Mike. Thank you for posting the link.
