I have an Canon GL2 and would like to burn some DVD of my tapes. I need a cable to go from my cameras dv in/out plug in to my computer. Now I can not find a firewire plug in on the tower at all. I have USB ports on the front. But nothing on the back or front for firewire.

Can I buy a dv in/out plug for my camera with a USB at the other end or do I still need firewire? If so I will have to install a firwire card. And where do I buy these cables when I need them?

Thanks for all the help. Steve

You will need to install a FireWire/IEEE1394 PCI card in your computer. I've seen them for as little as $30 at CompUSA.

OK thanks I think I can install a firewire card. But now is the dv firewire a 4pin,6pin??? I see some with 4 pin to 6 pin. 4 pin to 4 pin, 6 pin to 6 pin now what do I need? Tha Canon book manual list nothing.

Your camera will require 4 pin and most (all?) FireWire cards are 6 pin. The 6 pin is capable of carrying power for devices that require it. I use a 4 pin to 6pin cable with my XL1s and other cameras.
