Does anyone have any recommendations/suggestions for tripods (for use with an XL1s). I have done a search on this site but all results are from people in the US. What would be a decent one that I could buy here in the UK. I would want it to make smooth pans etc possible and I don't really want to more than £200 or £300...

I had a look at the Vinten Pro5 yesterday - seems pretty good for about £275.

Check out http://www.b-hague.co.uk/camera%20supports%20systems.htm
They sell a lot of Manfrotto (called Bogen in the USA) Tripods. They also do special offers if you want to buy a head and tripod together.
Also www.creativevideo.co.uk sell a few but they are all rather expensive (£1000+).
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the replies.
So is Manfrotto the best make to go for? Is there much difference between the quality of tripods in this price range or are they all much of a muchness?

Manfrotto are quality tripods, but I would suggest to go down to a local camera/ video shop to see one for yourself, that way you can can decide whether a manfrotto tripod is the one for you.
Go too as many places as possible and look at as much brands as possible, that way you will find the right one.
Hope this helps,
