View Full Version : My First Interview
Aaron Rosen February 11th, 2004, 05:51 PM Hi All.
I completed my first paid interview (yay) last week and have it up on the web as a promo. tool for our company.
I think it looks pretty good for a first time out but wanted to get some trained eyes to look at it.
Let me know what you think.
The web page it lives in is: www.doctorsambulance.com/rfp

Nicholi Brossia February 11th, 2004, 09:40 PM The site seems to be down. Both the linked page and homepage are not displayed.
Aaron Rosen February 12th, 2004, 01:16 AM I fixed it. That was my fault. Forgot how to type for a second.
It should work now.
Dustin Waits February 12th, 2004, 07:08 AM I like it. Good lighting. I also like the blurs on the subtitles. Only thing is you can't read the subtitle when it's over the subjects shirt. Try putting a little drop shadow under the text and see if that looks better or worse.
James Nyfeler February 12th, 2004, 07:20 AM I also liked it -- good lighting. I found my gaze drawn towards the blue computer screen: everything else in the shot was warm browns and yellows, and it was a bit distracting. I also liked the blurred title, but I'd leave it up for less time -- maybe 5-8 seconds or so. You've done a good job on two critical components that most beginners don't do well: lighting and sound.
Rob Lohman February 12th, 2004, 10:54 AM Lighting etc. was good. I found it "weird" though that the speaker
wasn't looking at the camera and we were basically watching
him almost from the side.
Aaron Rosen February 12th, 2004, 11:23 AM Thanks all.
- Titles: They are much easyer to read on the TV. I agree. They are hard to read on on computer. They also distract a bit from the guy himself.
- Angles: This was the best lookin' angle of the 5 we shot. The others were very strange looing. They looked exceptionally fake (even more so).
- Ligth & Sound: Thanks all. I tried to work with what I had. The major problem was the time limit. 30 min. to get in, introduced, set up, packed and out. I used a Seni. Evo. 100 series wireless mic on my XL1s. The light was a JTL 500 w. softbox.
Bryan McCullough February 12th, 2004, 11:41 AM Tell me how you made the titles.
After Effects?
Can you provide a quick tutorial as to how you did that effect? It looked really cool.
The lighting looked great.
Personally, I'd like to have seen a cut to another angle in there somewhere.
Aaron Rosen February 12th, 2004, 12:48 PM The titles were done on Apple's Live Type.
I wish I had a second camrea to cut to but I only have one.
When the video clip is used, it will be for a few seconds and then cut to other video with the sound as an overlay.
If you want a tutorial on Live Type I can tell you how I did it.

I would really appreciate that.
Aaron Rosen February 12th, 2004, 04:24 PM Ok. Give me a bit. Im at work so Ill need to get home and write it up so I looks correct.
I get off tonight at 7 pm (CA time).
Mickey Stroud February 12th, 2004, 10:17 PM Aaron, I agree with the others – nice job on the lighting, sound and titles. I, also, agree with Rob about the camera angle. While I don't think it is necessary for him to look in the camera, he should appear to be talking to someone beside the camera.
I have one suggestion and a couple of questions.
Suggestion: I definitely wanted to see another angle and if you couldn't show another angle, I would like to have seen you tighten up this shot. Seemed like a lot of wasted head room that didn't really contribute to anything. If the end result is going to be streamed or shown on the internet at a reduced size the tighter the better.
Question: You shot 5 different angles and only 1 worked? What other angles did you shoot? (Okay, 2 questions).
Mickey Stroud
Aaron Rosen February 13th, 2004, 02:44 PM Hi Michey.
Question 1: Yeah. The angles were shot and only one wored. Some were to washed out or close and it was not very flattering to the guy. On the others, the script were bombed.
Auestion 2: We had a head on (tight shot) x 2, head on x1 (wide), final shot you see and one other that was a little closer and at less of an angle.
I wish I had the chance to take all these nice coments back and reshoot but that can't be done. =(
I will however keep them all in mind on the next one.
BTW: We talked to him and he said he loved it. Client and talent are happy. Me too...
Don Donatello February 14th, 2004, 11:28 AM good sound , lighting etc
but the person looking so far off camera. it looks like they are talking to somebody that is standing up/siting down /up/down? ? it doesn't matter how good everything else is - in the end the off camera speaking doesn't work for me ...
now this is just based on this as a finished piece .. if this is part of a longer piece the off camera looking could work ...
