Hey guys--Reading through one of the old threads on the mini35 I get the impression that there is a magnification factor with focal lenghts when using the system. Is this correct? And if so, what is it? Thanks!

To the best of my knowledge there is no magnification, that's
the whole idea behind the adaptor. You are probably thinking
about the Canon adaptor?

There is no magnification factor in regards to Academy35 shooting.

If you are relating your experience shooting SLR cameras to the Mini35, there is a conversion factor of approx 1.6x

Thanks Mizell. Just to make sure I understand, a 100mm lens used with the mini35 would give you the equivalent image (roughly) of a 160mm SLR? Thanks!

Yes.

Bear in mind that the actual frame size of a 35mm still image is larger than that of standard Academy 35mm motion picture film. Take a look at the following "Angle Of View" Chart that details the differences at http://www.edward.grabczewski.btinternet.co.uk/Cinematography/Angle_of_View.xls. (Use a Spreadsheet program to open the file such as Microsoft Works or Excel)

You may want to take advantage of the "Search" button at the top right of your screen. Try entering a keyword search string of "Mini35 angle of view". You'll be able to take advantage of the fact that this issue has been addressed multiple times here in the forums.
