In addition to their new D-SLR, Canon is rolling out seven new PowerShot digicams according to their PMA press release (http://www.powershot.com/powershot2/presspma.html). Nice to see a nod back to the older Pro 90 IS, with a couple of models sporting longer zooms. Gonna be an exciting week in Vegas...

Just finished reading the specs on the new cameras.
Thoughts on the Pro 1 in particular...
8mp? Yeah!
L series lens, Yeah! No image stabilizer? Booo! The S1 gets IS, why not the Pro 1???
2.5 fps for 6 frames? Meh. 1fps for 16 frames? Double meh...
Yay for the 28mm -200mm lens where most others in that category of camera start at 35mm, except the Minolta A1, which also has a 28-200mm lens (except WITH IS).
Why can't everyone make a 640x480 30fps movie mode? Why just 15fps?
Flip out 2" 253k pixel LCD? Yay!
Pricey.... But a lot of camera for the price. The Digital Rebel is the same price, but without a 28-200mm L series lens...
Props to Canon for including a 64mb card where other manufacturers are still putting in 16mb cards.
Still, the most important thing, image quality, remains to be seen. I doubt Canon will dissapoint there.

Canon is definitely looking to control the digicam market- and with the way they're going- it looks as if they may just pull it off......
...Canon stuff is just plain ole' good!!!!

Funny thing, about two days before this release, I was talking with a salesperson at a photo shop about how Canon (CANON!) had nothing in this market. Well, looks like they do now!

Chris, do you know when we will be seeing these cameras on the shelf in stores?
