Thank you to everyone that gave me feedback on my Be Afraid Trailer.

First, the download link on that page is for your previous trailer,
not this one.

I liked the trailer, had a nice feel to it. I did find it a bit too slow
for the subject though. The blood seemed a bit unreal in certain
shots and the final axe shot had too long a "pause" in it before
we got "slashed" so to speak. Looked great though!

Brian, I like most of your stuff, good editing. However, much of it suffers from being too dark - the curse of internet video.

I should probably get a pro monitor. Do you think If I color and brightness corrected to that, everyone would see it better? My monitor sees all of it perfect but apparently its too dark for alot of people. :(

Any suggestions?

About the pace, I liked the style and choice to go b&w, as indoor shooting can be tricky without good lighting.
I would have liked to have seen the blood earlier on and maybe not be able to recognize what it was till later, but that's just my opinion. Good feel to it, keep it up.

FWIW, I got the blood instantly. Didn't have a problem with it.

Also, maybe your monitor is turned up too bright, so it looks alright to you, but is too dark to everyone else?
Just a thought.

That depends on how far off your system is... no way to tell
unless you do so.

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean, that mabye my system isn't off, and the dark systems are, so editing on a pro monitor wouldn't help?

That depends on how far your system is off. If your system is
way of spec to ours (assuming ours are doing a pretty good
color reproduction, we could also be the problem, ofcourse)
then getting a decent monitor might fix that. If this is not the
case perhaps you just like darker footage more or are watching
it in a dark room or something.

You aren't on the Mac by any chance? Because the Mac and PC
have a different monitor brightness (or something like that).

ANyone have a good standard way to calibrate your monitor settings? I threw mine way off to be able to see Brians videos, now I'm not sure whether it is too dark or too light.

Another thing to consider is that most codecs used to compress for the internet will make images darker -- some more than others.

Depending on the source footage the difference can be quite a lot. Another variable to worry about.

I am not quite sure, but I think if you are shooting color and then removing the color information for black and white and then removing more information for compression that process could be part of the issue.

Key is to experiment.

I do watch my movies after I convert them to quicktime, so that's not the answer in this case, but it is a good point to mention.
