Hi Dan....
So as to not hijack your other post here:
http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/convergent-design-flash-xdr/183548-nanoflash-progress.html
I've started this new thread with comments on 10-bit acquisition, and other topics. After starting this on the referenced thread, above, I decided this is more appropriate to place in a new thread.
Anyway, I've been beta testing the FirstLight application from Cineform. This app allows metadata pre-processing of color correction parameters on a cineform DI. It occurs to me, in my thinking about 10-bit acquisition, that this would be very advantageous when metadata preprocessing is being used for CC. The Cineform DI is 10-bit native, so conversion from a capture format that is 10-bit is probably quite enhanced.
On a seperate topic, Cineform contacted me about my Trouble Report that the XDCAM HD codec doesn't work in NEO HD. They told me that they know what the problem is, but, that they don't have the time to fix it ;o( I just downloaded the Neo HD v4 public beta and it's NOT fixed in v4 either.
Not sure why Cineform is being so unresponsive to this. Are they po'ed at CD? Surely, the XDCAM HD codec has enough users to warrant attention.
At the present time, Avid will import the XDCAM HD codec, as you know, however, it needs to be transcoded within Avid(or in Metafuze) before it can be exported as a QT reference file. The Cineform DI is a very nice way to work around this problem, as well as the best way to change framerate on the FlashXDR captures(at least, until C-D implements pulldown on 720p60). It's very annoying that they won't give this problem any attention.
