I have done a quick search and REALLY appreciate the FAQ sticky but I was hoping to get some recommendations on a simple/easy to understand, kinda short in length (not looking for a huge technical manual here) text book style introduction to audio for video book.

I have just purchased the Canon XH A1s and was wise in taking some advice from this forum and getting decent headphones PLUS I got EXDTREMELY lucky and bought a second hand (how second hand can something bought in March 2009 be?) NTG-3 and have been quite blown away by the sound I'm getting on my camera. I realise that buying a dead cat or similar is going to be essential but not till next month as luckily I don't have an outside shoot till then.

Safe to say I'm well chuffed but it also made me realise that (despite having worked in Radio) I'm very ignorant about sound. I understand a little about the creative elements of sound and sound design but know nothing about technical and recording basics.

Any recommendations would be VERY helpful! Cheers.

An excellentt overview is "Getting Great Sound for Film and Video" by Jay Rose.

Cheers Steve.

D0 you think the book will compensate for me being ignorant or is it aimed at people with a basic knowledge of sound?

The best book is "Location Audio Simplified" by Dean Miles

Ty Ford is a great resource for "audio for video" information. He has a guide:

Audio Bootcamp Field Guide

Here's his web site:
