Question put bluntly,

Does everyone like the PDX10's shotgun mount, or did we feel the need to improve?

I've the TRV950....so cannot input....but.....you might make your question more specific to hint at what improvements might be made......is noise passing through it from the cam?....does it stick out too far??? etc.....

I really just want to know if others have made the decision to replace the given mic mount, and what they went with instead.

It is true that I experience some amount of handling noise, although I am still rather new as an video/audio person, and will, in the very near future, begin working with mics much more sensitive than what I'm used to. I didn't mention all of this in the first place, though, because it turns my inquiry into one better suited in the Audio forum, and I wanted to hear from PDX10 users, how they feel about the standard mount, how other mounts sit on top of the XLR block, etc., etc.

I am quite happy with the mount as it stands.

I believe that if you are seriously into the audio side of video (and I record classical concerts) then you will be using extensive outboard mixers and microphones.

Therefore, All you need is XLR input to your camera. As long at these inputs are not too intrusive and allow you to pan your camera without cable hindrance, I am happy as it currently stands.

Having the ability to remove the mount is, I believe, a Huge plus for the PDX10 compated to the PD150/170 where it is fixed.

Most of the time, I shoot without the mount. Only when I need 2 * XLR input ( and it is usually whenm the camers is on a tripod) do I use the shoe.

IMHO, You will never get great audio from a Camera mounted mic. (At best it will be ok and useful for general background)

Thanks, Patrick. I realize that cam mounte mics aren't the ideal set up, but, as a one man crew, there are times when it's "best", and I'm trying to make the most of it, hence the original Q.
