When I bought my Panasonic pv-dv852, I asked for a UV lens with in and B&H gave me a 43mm filter with it.

Do I need to remove the lens hood to attach the filter? The manual doesn't really tell you how to do this. It almost seems like you can attach a larger size filter to the outer rings of the lens hood.


Also has anyone had any problem with the tape loading mechanism of the 852. My seems almost hesitant. Sometimes after you load the tape you hear, the gears still engaging. At first I thought it might have been broken, but now I think that may just be the way it works. I haven't had a problem with it not working, it just always seems that it won't work.

Somebody tell Japan that we hate bottom-loading cameras.

You need to remove the lens hood, attach the uv filter and put the hood back on the uv filter...

The 852 is a pretty much older model, I bought the MX8 (PAL equivalent) in Jan 2002. At that time, the MX8 was already arround 1 year old. Then I sold mine to a friend in Nov 2002. Panasonic has hear the cries for top loaders, and the new range has top loading.

BTW, the Sony cams has much faster loading mechanism. The Panasonic goes click (open cover) - hmmm-hmmm-hmmm- hmmmmmm (tape winding and eject) - clack (pops open). The same sequence after you have closed the door. The whole thing, plus a tripod plate takes me 20 seconds.

I figured I would have to remove the lens hood. The manual mentions so filter kit that you attach to the outside of the lenshood. I suppose that's a Panasonic kit.

The manual does not mention how to remove the lens hood.

The lens hood was just on tighter than I expected.


For anyone searching this board later.
It works exactly the way I thought it would. You just turn the lens hood counter-clockwise and it comes off. At first mine would not give and I just stopped not wanting to break anything. I just held the body of the camera tighter and twisted that as i held the lens hood, that helped break the seal.
