why are there no camera shops in the pacific northwest. As you can tell (from pervious post)I am looking for a Panisonic AG-DVC80 and i live in Vancouver. The camera is not available in Canada so I have buy it from the United States (so there may be a issue with the warranty). I know that there are alot of good online dealers but I am old fashion and like to touch what I am going to buy especially if i am going to drop $2000.00 US. So my question does anyone know anywhere in Washington state I can get this camera.
Thanks
Michael

Hey, loved "Bowling for Columbine"! Just kidding. I couldn't resist. :)

LOL,
It's Okay ...
Yes it is my real name
You know one of the hardest things in the film industry in getting your name known, well in my case the hardest thing is getting my own name. I have meet Michael Moore and he is a really nice guy and laughed when I asked him to change his name but no go.
The other hard thing is finding a camera in the Pacific Northwest, all the camera shops seem to be in NYC.
Thanks
Michael Moore ( the real one lol )

Did you check with Lorne Lapham Sales and Rentals in Burnaby? I think they carry Panasonic (although are primarily a Sony dealer).

Check with Leo's?

(We have a George W. Bush working at Kit's Coffee.)

Thanks for the ideas, but the Panisonic AG-DVC80 is not available in Canada. for some reason they have not released it. I have asked Leo's to bring it in and they said they cant and even if they could they would only charge 500.00 less then the DVX which is still like $4500.00 CA

Keep trying to feed different zip codes into the "find a dealer" page at panny.com. You may have to bite the bullet and order one from NY.

Go to lorne Lapham's and look at the DVX100, if you like it, the DVC80 will be the same basic camera.

There are very few retailers in the world with the selection that B&H have. Zotz and Grants Pass is a hike from Vancouver, it's east of Medford , in the mountains, ouch!

http://www.onecall.com, even though they are just a few hour's drive from Vancouver, DOES NOT ship into Canada, whereas http://www.bhphotovideo.com does.

I don't think OneCall carries the dvc80. The dv953 looks to be their biggest Panasonic cam.

Michael,
What a strange situation. We in the U.S. want to come up to Canada to get inexpensive medications and you want to come down here to get a camcorder. Wonder if we could arrange some kind of a swap or something. :)

Michael,
Have you tried Commercial Electronics Professional division (upstairs) on Burrard? They carry the DVX so maybe they can bring the AG-DVC80 in on a special order.

I bought a microphone there over the holidays and they claim they can bring anything into the country. It can't hurt to call. The video specialist there is Mick Smith, (604) 622-4386. Commercial Electronics isn't exactly the cheapest place in town though.

Wow Thanks guys,
I have tried all the dealers in Vancouver and they have all given me the same song " We can not order the camera because it is a US only model" this totaly sucks when I am standing there waveing $3000.00.
I have called OneCall and am waiting to hear back from them they said they will see what they can do ... I hope it works out.
I also tried the panny.com dealer finder and it seems that there are only 5 or 6 dealer in washington state

just a side note
I was very surprised that waveing $3000.00 around didn't get me anywhere hey maybe money does not have as much influence as it used to
Thanks and if you see a used DVC80 or find one in the Pacific Northwest please let me know

Waving money around still means a lot over here :-) But we're old fashioned that way.

Leo's and LLRS would just yawn. They go for the full canadian list price.

It looks like you'll have to order it from the US. Persuing this any further is like kicking a dead horse in the bag. If it was me i'd go for the big guy and order from B&H.

Consider it even, they have the DVC80 and we have good beer :)

...and Barrie had good Molson plant bud, Bryan. ;)

Sparky, I would just go with B&H. If there's anything wrong with the cam, B&H will look after you---unlike onecall's re-stocking fee.
