I don't mean to be a nitpicker but when you say you'll pay 100.00 per shoot----what exactly are you considering a shoot? (cause I don't break out my camera for less than 250.00 a day and that doesn't include my 'operating cost'......!!) And you're asking for a pro?

I do some work in the Dallas area and even the cheap ENG guys are $250 a day. If you are looking for more of a creative film/tv type, double that. You might be able to get someone to do 1/2 day for $250

do a "demo reel" search. it's been discussed pretty extensively, and very experienced DPs, like charles papert, have provided links from their own reels to dvinfo, so that we can see how others are going about putting reels together....

Didn't mean to offend anyone, but the price was based on Governmental statistics concerning the average rate for camera operators ($21/hr) Truth of the matter is the short feature could be shot less than (4) hours but you have to consider the SAG actors and actresses have full time jobs. The process can be handled better in four shoots (3) afternoons (1) morning. Large portion of the (5) hours mentioned was mainly driving in the metroplex.
(1) shoot consists of filming the outside of a building, an actor in a lobby, and
footage of cubicles, no more than (4) minutes of filming for $100 dollars. If it's not for you... no worries

Arnold, I have no way of contacting you. No email or phone info provided. I might be of some assistance to you on your project. You can email me off forum and I will get in touch with you. BTW, I am one of the XL2 forum mods here at DVINFO.

Very very nice. :)

My only feedback would be to recommend moving a stronger shot up to the front of the reel instead of the girl/rain.
The composition and effects for the girl and storm in the first shots are not as strong as the rest of the reel.

The general rule for reels is to always put your absolute best material first. Reviewers are expecting this and (faced with stacks of demo reels to cull through) might actually stop after the first 10 seconds. Using the "photography" style sequence for the opener, for example, could be much a more effective, attention getting, way to start IMO.

Great work!
Good luck!

I have a friend who is trying to get her break into stardom in Hollywood. She has done several voice overs for big clients in the past and a bunch of movies.
Her problem now is that she has left the market where she is known and is trying to break into the Hollywood scene.
She needs a budget-but-good recording studio (at least an iso booth with a good mic and clean sound) that could either use her voice on a few projects, use her as on-screen talent as payment, or charge minimum bucks for jobs that she has lined up...
Let me know if there's anything out there for her!
Thanks!!

I don't know if anyone has responded to your request, but I am interested. I do not own an XLH1, but I have worked with it. I do own and have worked extensivley with a Canon XL2, and some of the mechanics of the 2 cameras are the same. I am based in Salt Lake City, but travel to Vegas often. If you are in need of crew at this point, don't hesitate to contact me if you wish.

I just shot a video of a top vocal coach in a cool little recording studio that is not too expensive and the guy who runs it is great. It's in Garden Grove on the north end of Orange County. Not too far from most of metro LA.

It's called "Virlouise" and the owner is Bill Davidow.

Phone number is: 714-530-0389

Website is www.virlouise.com.

email is Virlouise@Virlouise.com

I was just real impressed and thought the place was cool.

Thanks Nick, I think that you have a good point there (we're just so sentimental to some of our work...it's hard to let it go....)

I think I am going to place the "rain" at the end with my name sinking :) in the water.

Anybody else?

Maybe cut it down a bit. Your work is more than strong enough to where you can whet appetites by not showing them so much. That's a personal opinion, however. I agree with the post above as well. Overall, very nice and impressive stuff.

The biggest thing for me is dont make a general demo reel.....make one for a specific company in mind. Definitely trim it down get the message across a lil quicker. It could just be me and my MTV mindset. :)

also to me it seemed like the timing at the begining was great but somewhere in the middle i lost the "beat".....but dont read too much into that :)

so you are sending this out to get a job as _________ ?

overall very good- excellent work !!!

IMO if you are going to start with the little girl - start on the wide shot. get me to 17sec ASAP ...

the first 17 sec is good .. 17- 1:10 is excellent ..1:10 -1:33 is good ..1:33 to end is very good - excellent ..

excellent !!!!

Albert Rudnicki
March 29th, 2006, 10:26 AM
Thank you all!
I am rendering and uploading the changes as I write it.
I've cut the girl/rain by half, and added some more shots in the middle to get it more interesting.

I wonder about Nick's comment, if I should move the photography (end of reel) to the beginning of the reel, would it make it more effective?

Thanks
Albert Rudnicki

Nick Jushchyshyn
March 29th, 2006, 10:32 AM
Note, I'm not recommending to move "Photography" to the beginning.
Just re-do that shot to result in a "directing and concept" title for the start of the reel. :)

Personally, I like the directing and concept work up front. Just recommending the use the stronger intro sequence to open it up.

The government-published average rates that you quote are based on the cash compensation for regular employees. Costs of benefits and of the employer's contributions to taxes are added on top of that, costs which are born by the worker when they're self-employed. For a freelancer or self-employed contractor to net-out the same hourly income as the regular employee, they must bill at between double and triple the hourly base wage an employee would receive.

I'm a writer/director. I've been using the same dp for my shoots for a while. Unfortunately, he does not have the necessary skills to shoot the HD projects I have coming up. I am looking for a professional HD cinematographer with experience in TV commercials and hi-end corporate videos.
Must be in New York. I would like to see a reel first, and then have a short consulting meeting, which you will be paid for.
Please do not ask which HD format I am looking for and all the details of my projects. I'm not looking for a quote. I'm looking for someone well versed in the different HD formats, with experience shooting, and a wide range of skills for consulting and then potentially shooting the projects. I am looking to hire a consultant first to look at footage and the projects to help determine the best format, camera, etc.
email only to MJFarm@aol.com
Thank you,

Makeup artist needed for simple non-union infomercial shoot on Monday(4/10/06). Very simple work, just touching up faces, nothing fancy.

$50 for day including kit rental, and copy of final product

I know this isn't a makeup forum, but if you might know someone in the LA area who might be available, pass along the info.

Please send resumés to df@sevenpictures.com

Thanks!

Does anyone have lightning video at night? I can't find a tape that has lightning footage I shot for a film four years ago. So much for organization! Let me know if you have it.

I'll give credit! The movie:

http://homepage.mac.com/hmcknight/iMovieTheater11.html

I know the compression stinks, that's why I am re-linking clips by re-capturing. The original footage was lost when a LaCie drive failed. One of several, actually.

We begin shooting a 35 minute short film Tuesday the 18th and running through the 23rd and need a RedRock Micro M2 35mm adapter.

The cameraman that was providing the adapter unfortunatly became unavalaible as of today.

We need a cameraman as well with DVXb on the 18th and 23rd. We would be willing to rent the adapter for the entire shoot. There is pay and credit.

That's the link to the other thread...

Quickly thinking of doing a feature around Springfield this summer... so looking for crew... or help so thought I'd post information again...

You can go to the Missouri Ozark Guy thread and see more information...

Who knows this maybe cross posting on two different threads... so if I'm doing it... I'm sorry...

Just wanted to get the information out there around the Missouri area...

the dialog is pretty good. I'm liking the interaction between the two. i think the script was written very carfully. so good job on that. now as for the quality im not going to say anything about the compression cause we all know you loose quality when you compress files anyways. but im looking at something bigger. Your lighting is off in a lot of shot. i can see you fiddling with the irus in the middle of a shot when the picture goes from dim to bright. and your lights whatever you used i can see a huge glare in the shot where the camera is point. those are small details that means a lot when someone who knows video is watching everything else seems to be pretty good. Just work on your 2 and 3 point lighting and you should be okay. - pz

Thanks for the critique! The compression is horrible, because Final Cut's QuickTime Conversion is garbage.

It's a dogme 95 movie with a story that is all adlibbed, but the ideas were there. We didn't decide on a happy or sad ending until we shot it.

Half those lightning shots were corrupted and deleted and I have no idea where the tape is. My former methods of labeling left something to be desired.

Thanks,
