Martin Taidy August 28th, 2006, 04:14 PM Hi everyone, I'm a junior over at USC and am planning to shoot a short in a month or so. The problem is that we don't have a DP and the people in school have been flaking at last minute, which is why I'm here.
The short will be an action/thriller. We'll be filming in HD using the HVR-Z1U and the M2 adapter from Redrock together with their follow focus. Filming will only be done on weekends (mostly Saturdays) and I expect shooting to be done within 3-5 months.
The work will be unpaid since I'm a student but meals will be provided. We're not looking for anyone experienced, but a little knowledge with the abovementioned equipment would be useful. If interested to find out more, please respond or leave a pm. Thanks!
Chris Hurd August 28th, 2006, 06:16 PM Hi Martin, just curious if you've established a target for the running time of your short... is it 30 minutes, 45 or 60 minutes or longer perhaps? The reason I ask is because you're indicating a three to five month shooting schedule. Even if that's Saturdays only, it still adds up to somewhere between twelve to twenty shooting days. Some folks can knock out a feature in that much time. I'm not knocking your anticipated schedule, nor do I have any idea what you're planning for in terms of your shooting ratio, but... three to five months worth of weekends sure seems like a mighty stretch of time for a short film.
Martin Taidy August 29th, 2006, 12:56 AM Hey Chris, I estimate the total running time to be about 30 minutes. The reason I said 3-5 months is because most of the crew are still quite inexperienced. Add to that the fact that we might not be able to film on every Saturdays so yeah.

Michael Bodel August 30th, 2006, 04:55 PM I am a choreographer based in New York who will be shooting a short dance film in October. We are looking to rent an HDV camera, preferably the JVC H100 for the two weeks. The budget of the piece is too small to be able to afford a rental house, but we are hoping to rent from an individual for a lower negotiated price. We can certainly provide production insurance for the camera or a full deposit. Please contact me if you are interested in renting. We are a small but well-run group who are happy to discuss the specifics of the shoot.

Thanks,
Michael

I am going to try and get it. A 24 lb fish on 4 lb.....I don't know....
I am still waiting to catch that Marlin on fly. December is the time to do it.
I guess everyone is buried in work, not one response. Who doesn't want to go fish in the middle of winter?
Go figure.

Well, with Jack at the controls, I think you have a good chance at the dolphin. Too bad you couldn't get a fly to that little blue that I caught last time, he was a good size for the purpose.
Let me know if I can help, and you have access to all of my equipment if you should need it.

Ken Diewert September 6th, 2006, 12:33 PM Hey Jim,
There is a possibility I might be able to help. I'm going to be in Costa Rica for a month from early January with my XLH1. I might be able to stretch the departure date into December. I've fished 25 miles offshore (West Coast of Canada) and shot from a heck of alot smaller boats than yours (while steering even). In fact I think your cockpit is almost as big as my boat.
I'll send up some sample footage to YouTube.
John Friedel September 6th, 2006, 01:25 PM We are an independent movie production company looking for a
volunteer Sound person to join our crew. Must be able to work at various locations in and around Nassau and Suffolk (Long Island).
Unfortunately, there is no pay but credit, copy and a percentage is offered and it's a chance to build your resume on a collaborative project . The film is already cast and ready to go and we do almost all our shooting on Saturdays.
If you're interested in honing your skills, working with a great cast and crew and being a contributing member of the project and possibly part of the crew, we're interested in talking with you.
Email us at Falcon857@optonline.net for a time we can get together to discuss the details.
Thank You
John

Andre De Clercq September 12th, 2006, 02:09 PM In New Mexico there is a well known site: Acoma Pueblo, where filming is not allowed. Does anybody happen to know if there is a possibility to buy a DVD or vidiotape about the site? Thanks for any information.

Michael Bodel September 13th, 2006, 12:10 PM Hello,
I'm a choreographer shooting a short dance film over two weeks in October. I am looking to rent a DVX100 with a couple batteries for the shoot. Its a small budget piece, so we are aiming to rent from an individual who might be interested in making a few hundred dollars rather than a rental house. My DP and I are happy to leave a deposit, insurance, or work out legal contract. I'm based in New York. Thanks a lot,
Michael
Stuart Dawkins September 14th, 2006, 04:46 AM I"m producing and directing two music videos for an established musician and one up and coming band, both of whom have released their first album. The songs are terrific, one very Billy Joel and the other a really unique and mature rock sound (nothing heavy metal).
I'm looking for a second cameraman to help on all fronts except funding (which I will take care of). I'd prefer to direct all funding at making professional videos (locations, actors, equipment, etc.) that everyone will be extremely proud to use as a contribution to their reel, etc., but would consider compensating camera help also if necessary. Drop me an email if you're interested in dedicating some time to this, having great fun, and most of all are serious about professional results. Thanks, -Stuart stuart.dawkins@gmail.com
Sheldon Blais September 15th, 2006, 08:32 AM Bump! Bump!
Marco Wagner September 15th, 2006, 02:10 PM I've landed a promotional footage shoot for a seriously high profile show Thursday, September 21st. It is a comedy show in Scottsdale, AZ and "A list" celebs will be there. Go here for details on the show.. http://celebritycomedyshow.com/
I need a second camera person to shoot and be available for all Thursday day and night and possibly to film behind the scenes stuff on Wednesday prior. I have 1 to 2 sponsors plus the entertainment management company all wanting promo. footage of the show. I only have one camera though!!! This is a paying gig although I don't know yet how much (still establishing contracts with the 2 to 3 entities). This is a GREAT opportunity to get exposure with some big time celebs and sponsors and possible future production jobs. You will have press access and possibly ALL access depending on which request is given. You would be under the umbrella of Time Lake Films contracted as a 2nd videography person and will possibly be asked back for several other higher paying projects. No editing involved, just hand me the DV tapes at the end of the night.
I'm looking for 3CCD SD cam + shooter on this project. Sony VX2100 is what I have. If you have the same, great! Otherwise.... Cannon XL1s/XL2/H1 - Sony VX2100/PD1xx/HDV or - or anything 3 CCD SD with good lighting. Expect to shoot for several hours, so have lots of tape and battery power. I’m looking for an experienced person with a nice camera and good eye. All future work from these entities is dependent on this first impression. I will include you in the credits and also push your production entity as an affiliate.
There will also be an after party in which you could pick up more money and more footage. You may bring one person as a grip or assistant.
Contact me via email - control@cox.net OR phone 602-373-7570. Be prepared to send me something showing some of your work and at least one valid reference. This is crucial and HIGHLY time sensitive, please only inquire if you have the skills, equipment, talent and availibility. Only call once, leave voice mail, I'll return all calls. I need to have this solidified by Monday or Tuesday.
Marco Wagner September 16th, 2006, 12:23 PM So far the response has been great! I will be returning calls today, tomorrow, and Monday to wrap this up. Thanks to all that responded so quickly.
Benjamin Hill September 16th, 2006, 11:49 PM Since your typical rental for two weeks on a DVX100 would be something like $1500, your simplest and cheapest solution might be to just buy the camera and sell it when your done; I doubt you'd take a $1500 hit, probably well under half that. Good luck.

Michael Bodel September 18th, 2006, 11:14 PM Thanks for the advise/info guys. I'm negotiating a few leads. I also need to rent 4-5 extra batteries and chargers for the DVX-100. If anyone in the NYc area have a battery with a charger (preferably not factory batteries) then please email me with the specs. I will pay $50 for each battery/charger set for the 2 week rental. Happy to leave deposit or work out contract to insure safe return and confirm the rental. Thanks,

Have you contacted the Acoma Tribal government directly? While casual tourist photography may well be banned, they might be more receptive to a serious project proposal.
