I'm interested in picking up a a miniDV cam ($1k range) for shooting "B" roll footage to be mixed with footage shot on a high end (Sony or Canon, not yet determined)

Anyone care to share their wisdom?

Thanks

Howdy from Texas,

Just make sure you match manufacturers. If your main camera is a Canon, then another Canon will be a closer match than a Sony. You could always just color-correct in post but why go through this if you don't have to. Also, make sure your cheap 1-CCD sub-$1000 camcorder has an RGB filter in front of the CCD and not a complimentary color filter. The primary color filters go a long, long way toward getting a 3-chip look. Hope this helps,

Thanks for the quick response.

Which would you recommend? or do you know which have the RGB that you refered to?

Thanks again.

If you can find a Canon Optura Pi, get one. It has been discontinued for awhile but every once so often you can find one. Less than $1000, superb, has the RGB filter. Good luck,

I just used Canon as an example here. Click on the "profile" button below my signature on any of my posts, and it'll pull up a list of gear that I use. You can fill this info in for yourself using the "user CP" button at the top of every page. Hope this helps,
