i found this webpage link on another forum. it contains used monitors that a tech guy gets and fixes up. what's the difference between studio and production uses in a monitor? please excuse my ignorance.

I would think you can get a good video monitor used, just like you can get a good computer monitor used.
I bought a 21" Hitachi Superscan 813 on Ebay a couple of years ago and it still works great.

Main thing is to buy from a reputable buyer, use a credit card, and be sure you're getting the monitor you really want with the specs you need.

If you are looking for a small monitor, perhaps an LCD would work for you. You can buy a new 6-7 inch LCD monitor from $100 to $500 depending on your budget and the resolution you want.

Just takes some research to pick the one you want :)

whoa, i didn't catch that. i usually save pages to a folder so i can go back and view them offline. i replaced that link with the actual link. i apologize for that.
