I own an XL1s, and am interested in getting ahold of a microphone, most likely shotgun, that will be good for use with a boom. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Corey

Matt Gettemeier December 28th, 2003, 08:37 PM If you have less then $175 get an Azden SGM-1X. If you have $175-$225 get an Azden SGM-2X. If you have $225-$350 get an at835b. If you have $350-$400 get an me66/k6. If you have $530 get an at4073a. If you have $600-$700 get a CS1. If you have $1,000 get an mkh416. If you have $1,300 get an mkh60. I'm guessing this will get you far enough down the list. If you wanted a mic that cost more you would have known exactly which one to get. Believe it or not, even though this looks really simple... it's not too far off. Pick a price range and listen to everything in that range. Save some dough for support items such as shockmount, furry, boom pole, XLR cables, and interface gear that can be as simple as the ma300 I believe? The Canon adapter? Or you may want to eventually go all out with a mixer/mic pre... but I'd hold off on that for now. You'll know when you "need" that stuff. I have a change jar at the local 7/11 with a sign on it that says, "Have you heard me?"... and there's a little crinkled up picture of an mkh416 on it... I made almost $17.22 last month. One day she'll be mine... Oh YES, she WILL be mine... Matthew de Jongh December 31st, 2003, 05:11 PM i just went through this decision and you can see my never ending stupid questions... i ended up with this great package with the me66-k6 power supply, the softie to block out the wind-noise and the hand-grip for handheld stuff with the shockmount. for mounting it on the camera i got the at-8415 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=breadCrumb&A=search&Q=&ci=1456 matthew Mathieu Ghekiere December 15th, 2004, 03:24 PM Such a cheap shotgun mike, like the Azden SGM-1X you listed, is it good? Sorry if it's a stupid question :-) Emre Safak December 15th, 2004, 05:39 PM How do you define "good"? Seems like a nebulous question to me. It is the same with everything else; you get what you pay for. Mathieu Ghekiere December 16th, 2004, 12:16 PM Yep, I know that, but is it still usable to record dialog etcetera? I'll ask it otherwise :-p: Is it better than the canon standard mic, for recording dialog etcetera? Thanks, |
