I want a second camera (PAL) to use with my DVX100, for shooting live concerts. I have tried using my Sony, one chip, PC100e. At the last concert, the DVX100 was at f3.4, 0dB gain, and the quality was superb. The PC100e was at full aperture, 15dB gain, and there was so much grain, the footage was unusable.
I was wondering about buying a second hand DV100/DV110 or MX300/MX350.
Are they likely to give me a good enough picture to cut with the DVX100 in this kind of lighting?
Old DV100/DV110 models are very cheap. Is the MX300/MX350 a lot better?

How about a DVC80. That is what I use as my 2nd. camera.

The DVC-80 is only NTSC, and I can't afford it anyway!
Also, I need a longer telephoto. The DVX100/DVC80 is only 6.5x magnification.

depending on your lighting config, you can get some close matching images with an MX500 or even beter and MX350 (larger ccd)

i use bother these cams in question (dvx and MX) and have done so for a while now. Im very happy with the setup, but im waiting for teh release of teh DVC30 which i will use to replace the MX500...

ill prollyu only use the MX for stills if i end up doing that... but the dvc30 seems to be designed as the dvx lil bro...

on top of that the dvc30 has 16x zoom and 1/4 ccd.

I agree. The AG-DVC30 would most likely make a better 2nd cam for the DVX100. I say this because they'll have a similar resolution with similar Pana colour saturation, plus they're both higher-end cams, unlike the 500 line MX300/MX350.

Thanks for the suggestions. Any idea when the PAL AG-DVC30 might be coming out?

Probably spring/early summer.

I am also awaiting on some news on the DVC30.

But if you can't afford the DVC80, which is about $2,200, maybe the DVC30 will have a similar problem.

If it's supposed to compete with the PDX10 and GL2, as many say it will, it should be around $2,000. Maybe you can save a few bucks if you don't buy the XLR adapter, which is optional.

But the DVC80 has 1/3" CCDs instead of 1/4".

Who said he was going to some Expo where the DVC30 would be introduced?

Carlos, it's more likely that the DVC30 will be dangled and hoopla'd fully at NAB, but will be released in mid to late spring. Just a guess based on past experiences.
