Could you help me out with putting together a system that will meet the requirements for speedgrade? I am curious what is in the system that you guys are using. Okay, getting closer to finalizing this. Here is an updated list of the hardware suggested for a system. Quoting around $7000 CDN. Some parts may or may not be necessary (could upgrade or downgrade).
Feeback is greatly appreciated so I get a compatible system.
Primary function will be running cineform raw si2k footage. Possibility of expanding to work on r3d and 12 bit uncompressed.

I just recently bought an i7 920 with 12gig 1600 DDRIII ram and a Quadro card... it flies on vista ultimate. Just cant wait for the Cineform CS4 version :-)

I just built an i7 920 sytem with 6GB DDR3. Operating system is Vista 64 (Home Premium, I think).

It runs very well. I do not have a Quadro card, just a GTX260.

I am not an expert and know little about video cards. However, it's possible you don't need the $3000 video card, depending on the specific applications you are running and the processes that need to be carried out and the precise workflow you are following. A $500 card may be fine--but, again, it depends on the specific applications and work flow.

To know for sure, it's necessary to get info from an expert on the applications you are running.

(The ASUS P6T series of i7 motherboards are excellent and have received thumbs up pretty much across the board.)

I am on the ASUS P6T SE motherboard.
Find a bottle neck though with the firewire 400.
Thinking about getting a 800 card for my WD Studio drives and also I use a RME fireface 800 as I dabble a bit in music production.
Went for the quadro card because I have now 4 hdmi out.
This feeds my two 24" ASUS monitors and my Samsung 32"LCD so the monitoring is excellent.

The i7 handles the HD files real well.
