Hi Everyone. I am new to this group. My name is Jesse and I recently got a canon xl1s camera. My partner and I want to start on a documentary we have been putting together for a while. We will be interviewing people. ew already picked up a couple wireless lav. mics. and the camera is more than we could ever ask for!

My question is this. Does anyone here have expierience with docs.? Know anywhere to sell to? Any tv stations that would buy and how to do it? This is our first Doc. and we are very excited about it. I am positive someone would buy it for broadcast, but I have no clue how to go about that.

If anyone can help, it is DEEPLY appreciated.

there's a book called "Photographer's Market" where it shows literally thousands of "buyers" of photographs but also listed are video buyers- they list format, subjects, price range and requirements for submission-
...the book is under $30 if i remember correctly- you should get it.

Submission guidelines and requirements are posted on most networks web sites. They may want you to query first with project proposals, before sending guidelines. But it is all spelled out on the various network sites.

You may also find this book a helpful reference:

Also, you may want to check out the magazine The Independent, which is published by the Association of Independent Video and Filmmakers. Every issue has great advice on financing and distribution, along with great, great articles from current success stories. Many of them are targeted at documentary filmmaking. They also have an on-staff writer called the "Doc Doctor" who provides great advice on documentary filmmaking in each issue.

It comes free with a membership to the AIVF. Plus by being a member you get access into a part of the site that has more great stuff, including info on grants and so on.
