A question for the Vast and Unpaid Research Department.
On a shoot today, the XL1 developed a faint, high frequency, oscillating noise. In an effort to isolate the source of the noise, we began uplugging and striping the camera and accesories.
The noise dissapeared when the Manual 16x lens was removed from the body.
Since the camera arrived yestterday from canon after having a new recording mechanism installed... we decidet as a further test, to attach the lens to a SPARE xl1 body, and the noise was present in that configuration as well.
The noise was NOT present, when the same lens was attached to a spare xl1"S" body.
The noise was not present, when a stock auto 16x lens was attached to the first xl1 body.
Diagnosis?
Apparently the 16x manual lens is causing interference in the audio channel of xl1 bodies. This interference is NOT present in the camera mike, but is present in the audio 1 channel.
Anyone know of this problem? Anyone hear of a bulletin from Canon regarding this? Anyone have a similar problem?
Anyone? Anyone? Beullher...
