Say you use Premiere Pro.
It's rather slow even on the fast PC systems, dropping frames in its supposedly "real-time" previews. More so when the number of channels/filters increases.
To fix this, there are hardware accelerator cards that are specifically adjusted for Premiere Pro - like Canopus' DVStorm 2 or Matrox' RT.X 100 Xtreme Pro.
However both cards claim acceleration of Premiere's previews *only in DV SD resolution* of 720x480 (or so I understand).
Would they also accelerate HD files of 1280x720?
