Bryan Mitchell October 26th, 2003, 10:31 PM I still havn't written anything to shoot, other than my lady X submission, so I decided to head on out to the side of my house at night to have a look at the local wildlife.
right click and chose save target as (http://members.cox.net/numericatrophy/divx_spider.avi)

What kind of camera?
If you are gonna get that close, you need to have Macro so you can focus. or telephoto from a distance on a tripod.
Feed him a grasshopper or a fly for some good action
Keep shooting!

John Gaspain: It's a XL1s.
John Gaspain October 29th, 2003, 12:41 PM HOLY CRAP STEVE!
good stuff!
Bryan Mitchell October 29th, 2003, 01:35 PM Sadly, in the 4 years I've lived in Las Vegas, I've only seen one praying mantis. Also, I looked around for something to feed that spider but saw nothing except other black widows. (There's about 30 along the outside walls of my street, That one was the biggest) I think I'm gonna go buy some crickets at the pet store, and see if I can capture that on tape.
K. Forman November 9th, 2003, 07:48 PM I've been feeding my black Widow mostly moths, and the occasional fly. I keep her in a empty peanut butter jar. I forgot to feed her for a week, and she went nuts over a moth, chasing after it.
Steve Nunez November 9th, 2003, 07:51 PM black widows??????...............you guys are nuts!
(but please do get some footage on tape)
(Hey if you guys want- I could shoot some very exotic orchid mantises catching flys mid-air- they're awesome!!!- they're the prettiest mantids you'll ever see)
John Gaspain November 19th, 2003, 06:25 AM you might get some use out of this thread:

Steve Nunez November 19th, 2003, 08:15 AM I just caught an eastern red bat- I may try to catch some video of him/her eating insects.......if anyone's interested I'll get to videotaping!
Bryan Mitchell November 19th, 2003, 06:17 PM I'm interested!!!
Steve Nunez November 19th, 2003, 09:00 PM Unfortunately the bat just passed away- I think it was at the end of it's life- sad to see the little creature so lifeless.....this is the time of the year when the elderly bats pick a spot and just settle into a slumber and expire.
If anything else should be of interest i'll put a post here.
Steve Nunez November 22nd, 2003, 09:32 PM Although the bat has died- our local NYC redtail hawks are surviving.....here's a video you guys might like.....

Bob Safay December 22nd, 2005, 07:40 AM Hey Steve, great shot of the Mantis. Listen, if you want to add to that I have some great macro of a mantis laying an egg pod, as well as the little baby mantids. Life is great, so go shoot it. Bob
Brendan Marnell December 22nd, 2005, 08:58 AM Just saw and enjoyed your redtail hawk video, Steve, thank you.
I really must learn how to present a snippet of griffons cruising on the updraughts, but your sequences benefited from being mixed with close-ups at feeding perches and I've none of those yet. Onward!
Any more of the same since 2003, Steve?
Robert J. Wolff December 26th, 2005, 11:57 AM Steve,
This may come as news to you, but unless you have a license, you may have broken several fed/state laws. It is illegal to capture raptors or bats without a special license/permit.
Capture, and transport of a bat accross state lines is a real no! no!, particularly in this state of New York. Rabid critter's, etc.
Shhhhh! I won't tell, (but I can't speak for every one else on this thread).
(p.s.: I know. I had to take the entire 5 weeks of shots over a 3 hour period, in a single day.)
